Vehicle description
Introduced in 1981, the Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler was a long-wheelbase version of the CJ-7 that utilized a unique pickup-style body. Instead of using a separate pickup bed, the Scrambler used a removable half-cab that created a small pickup-style box. The running gear was unmodified from the CJ-7 with the traditional transfer case and manual locking front hubs to engage the four-wheel-drive system. Car and Driver called the new CJ-8 “a long-awaited dose of refinement to pavement Jeeping.” Production from 1981 to 1986 was a small fraction of total Jeep Wranglers sold, but the unique aesthetic and offroad prowess of the CJ-8 Scrambler resulted in a cult following. Unfortunately, the price of the CJ-8 Scrambler made the Jeep uncompetitive compared to other small pickups on the market. Buyers could find a better value in more traditional offerings causing CJ-8 sales to struggle. Still, their unique design and limited production numbers have created a perfect combination for a highly desirable off-roader in recent years. This 1982 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler is an excellent example of the platform. Spending much of its life in Arizona, it is entirely free of any rust and remains in excellent condition both mechanically and cosmetically. Finished in its original black over grey color combination, this Scrambler benefits from a high-quality respray and new factory-correct vinyl decals. Being a southern truck, it is free of any significant rust or corrosion. The venerable inline-6 engine shows 108,000 miles on the odometer and sends power through a four-speed manual transmission. For the Jeep enthusiast, few offerings were as unique as the Scrambler. This vehicle offers the opportunity to own a rare, turn-key example of the CJ platform ready for the trails ahead.
