Vehicle description
Up for auction is my convertible TR8, owned since new in 1981. These cars were manufactured for 2 years, and feature a Rover 3.5L Aluminum Block V8 engine, 5 speed manual transmission, convertible top, and Air Conditioning!
Years ago I let the car sit for 2 years when I was out of town working, and it developed various mechanical and cosmetic problems, so when I returned I had it brought up to spec by a professional mechanic, at a cost of nearly $12,000 USD.
I then drove the car for several years as a daily driver with no problems at all.
Once again I went out of town for an extended period, and when I returned I decided to completely restore the car myself to like-new condition…except it didn’t work out that way.
I disassembled the top, doors, window glass, door mechanics, and stripped the interior carpeting and decaying door panels as a prelude to the restoration – paint, interior, etc.
All the parts were cataloged and stored, and the Convertible Top Mechanisms and Interior/Exterior parts (*not* the carpeting/door panels/convertible top material) were stored away awaiting the exterior paint job and interior restoration.
The car itself has been in and out of storage, finally coming to rest again for many years - in the driveway.
If you have a hankering to restore a car, and you’d like a rare, unique, super-fun vehicle like a Triumph TR8 convertible, you will *never* find another opportunity like this one – a car that is totally intact, like a Barn-Find, except…
*All the parts are there*, and the car was restored to great running condition a few years before it was stripped down for restoration!
The normal failure points for a TR8 are in play – the clutch master cylinder and brake master cylinder failed (as they are known to do), but everything else is good:
The fuel tank was boiled and refinished!
The radiator fan was repaired and runs in two speed mode.
New fuel pump (without the sound-deadener molded cover).
New shifter bushings and clutch.
New Shocks.
Great condition wheels & tires.
A/C was refurbished.
New front brake rotors/brakes.
And the list goes on – I spent a small fortune on the mechanical repairs, and then never again found the time to finish the job.
Of course, I could part the car out and make my money back, but as a devotee of the “Great 8”, I would much rather see a mechanically inclined soul take over where I left off and put another TR8 back on the road!
Allow a day or two to gather all the various parts and containers up for pick up.
Comes complete with the TR8 ROM (Repair Operations Manual), original glovebox items, and files on the history of the car. Please ask any and all questions before bidding – the car is As Is, Where Is,,,
