Vehicle description
Vehicle Details True survivor. Stunning time capsule inside and out is this nice western state vehicle built new in San Jose CA. delivered to Colorado. Taken out of service in 1988 and parked only after eight years of use due to a small mishap in upper outer headlight area that had the right outer headlight, fiberglass header, bumper cover and top area of fender damaged and could no longer be driven at night. (No structure damage) (see old fender picture). At the time Ford had already discontinued the special Indy pace car upper cover so a new one could not be purchased. A used one could not be found either.(old rubber cover had a chunk missing and could not be repaired and didn't save). Most likely the only reason this car still survives today as it was simply parked and forgotten. Most of these style cars were parted and scrapped in the late 80's-early 90's and later after use. This was a time well before the internet unlike now with cars being parted everyday of the year. Beautiful straight solid original paint body in a great color combo with a stunning interior ready to show (minus both front bucket seats that will need recovered). Rear cushions are nice as with rest of very nice interior. High back seats in some photo's have since been replaced with a matching set of low back seats due to having the rear lower seat cushion missing when car was obtained. Looked for years for a matching seat cushion but could not find one other than what are in pace cars but wrong color, so found a matching set of front and rear seats from another vehicle and replaced all four seats. (no longer have old seats) Front door panels and plastic still looks new and are immaculate with no UV plastic deterioration on tops. The rear panels have it slightly though due to the big back window. After years in the building car was pulled out and started going through what needed attention after sitting unused so long. New parts as follows.1. Perfect used Ford OEM upper rubber cover and fiberglass reinforcement installed. Perfect used Ford OEM fender installed and just painted to somewhat match the damaged original that will come inside vehicle with purchase. Neither matches original paint on car so it is what it is. Tried matching fender twice but looks wrong. Rubber cover came out better the first time. 2. four New Sylvania halogen headlamps. 3. Complete engine service/cooling fluids/ flushed/replaced with quality materials. 4. Brakes gone through. 5. New Power steering pressure line. 6. Complete fuel system cleanout, dropping tank and cleaning, replacing sender, vent and seals, cleaning lines, new fuel pump, rebuilt carburetor. 7. New Ford tinted windshield installed years ago (Not Carlite) $800.00 Ford unit no longer available (see pic). and now has a crack from something resting on it from long term storage. 8. New hatch struts to hold up hatch. 9. New headliner replaced due to slight sag. New Sears Diehard battery and a new timing belt just for insurance. It will need a new temp switch on dash and radio hooked in. All the body needs is a fresh coat of the bright Gold metallic and new bright orange and tan side stripes that are faded along with paint with a few dings and door nicks removed on this straight solid original paint body to look great again. The original gold paint on the door jambs, under hatch and under hood looks amazing. All door seams, hatch and hood seams are super clean with no corrosion. I can only imagine what this car would look like with fresh upper body paint and new side stripes. You will definitely see it coming down the road and would most likely glow. Car runs and drives great, still has all the original exhaust and emission parts with numbered Ford cat's underneath and pollution pump working on engine so should pass emissions fine. Miles listed is what shows on odometer but it would have had to turn over at least once by 1988 and have no idea of actual miles. It does show a little blue out twin tailpipes at times. Still has the original plates on it. Complete 1 set of vintage 80's original black Motorsport splash guards in their original packages sourced years ago with a set of black lace and polished aluminum rim Riken wheels will come with car along with old fender (when reserve is met) with B.F. Goodrich tires (pictured) to drive on. Original Ford aluminum wheels pictured on car was built with have tires with no tread to drive on. They hold air fine and don't go flat but have no tread on them hence the extra set of wheels. This really is a beautiful car in great original condition with an excellent Black/Gold color combo only needing a fresh refinish on upper body with new side stripes and both bucket seat redone. If you are looking for an exceptional unique hard to find cobra in this color with a clean slate to refinish and enjoy for your missing link fox collection this is it. Very difficult today to find such a complete well cared for non abused Cobra in any color. This pre 83 lightweight would also make for a great EV conversion and a lot faster and more fun to drive if you wanted to change out the turbo 4.
