Vehicle description
About this vehicle This 1979 Porsche 928 is an original. The owner has had it for 3 years. The vehicle runs great and is used as a daily driver. Seller"s Notes I attempted to upload a video, but kept getting an error. If you would like further videos or photos, please just message me and I will provide them to you. Vehicle Details 1979 Porsche 928 Five-Speed, Renegade Conversion Chevy Small-Block V-8, Everyday Driver For sale is a 1979 Porsche 928 five-speed. The car at some point in its life had the original engine swapped for a Chevy small-block v-8 with tuned port injection (Corvette late 80’s early 90’s). The car runs well, and weather permitting I drive it every day to and from work, both city and highway. I have owned the car about three years, and have kept it garaged when not driving (as I’m sure have the other owners, given the shape of the exterior). The good (what works or has been fixed): The car looks great and runs well. Very smooth on the highway. The glass panels are in great shape and the rear and side windows between the B- and C-pillars are tinted. All of the car’s lights, including the pop-up headlights, are in fine shape. All body panels are straight and in good finish. The car has Fuzion ZR1 tires, 225/50R16 in front and 245/45R16 in rear surrounding slotted and chromed factory aluminum wheels. The marron (brown) (code 40A) seats are in decent shape with some visible wear. The matching carpet is in great shape. The matching headliner, dashboard (see comments below), steering wheel, door panels, mirrors, and center console are all in good shape. I replaced the original shifter with a short-shifter, and installed a new shifter knob and skirt. In the dash is a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo with CD changer mounted underneath the dash. It works, but it’s old and in all honesty doesn’t sound that great. I disconnected the CD changer (but still works), and generally only listen to the radio. Driver assist features include air-conditioning (see below), power steering, power brakes, power windows. Repaired fuel tank venting system. Fuel pump was replaced mid 2017 when I purchased the car. Added secondary, non-pressurized coolant recovery tank, 11/19. Replaced fuel line from fuel pump to filter, 11/19. Replaced transmission 7/18. Replaced clutch/flywheel 9/18. Replaced catalytic converter 9/19. Replaced alternator 6/20. Replaced instrument cluster circuit board, repaired speedometer, 4/20. The bad (what doesn’t work or issues): The air conditioner recently stopped working. Still blows fine, but compressor doesn’t kick on and most likely will need to be replaced. The tachometer stopped working. All other gauges work except for the trip odometer, and should be reliable since the gauge circuit board has been replaced. After replacing the clutch and flywheel, when pushing the car hard the shifter vibrates (please see video). Short of taking the car apart, I have been unable to find a resolution. But it doesn’t come into play during normal driving. There is no windshield washer function, which was apparently removed when the engine conversion was done. Didn’t matter to me since I only drive the car in good weather. The paint is “checking” on the rear of the car below the hatch. When I purchased the car, it had an aftermarket wing on the rear hatch. It cracked, so I removed it and filled/painted the holes. They are still visible, however. The driver’s side door does not lock from the outside, which was how I purchased the car. I have never worried about fixing it. The dashboard plastic has a few cracks and buckles (please see photos), which I would imagine is pretty typical with this particular car. The dome light and electronic mirror adjustors don’t operate. Could be as simple as a fuse, but I’ve never bothered fixing. I have the idle set pretty high because when warm the car has a tendency to vacillate at idle. I was supposed to get the original manual, documents, service receipts, etc. when I purchased the car, but we had a major flood in St. Louis. The seller was forced to move their office and inventory to another location, and they weren’t able to find the records. All of the service records since I have owned the vehicle will be provided.
