Vehicle description
Restored 1979 MGB Roadster-
The current owner of this very nice MGB has owned it for 10 years. It is an older restoration but has been garaged ever since and still presents very nicely. It has been used strictly for pleasure driving on pretty days and maintained with lots of care.
The current owner has gotten older and has difficulty these days getting in and out of the car so he decided to ask Speedwell to find a new home for it. It was driven to our shop and, at the instructions of the owner, given a thorough inspection. He had us repair everything we could find that could be a potential issue down the road as he is hoping it will go to someone who will cherish, protect and enjoy it as much as he has.
Here is a list of the work we performed:
New rear leaf spring bushings and rear axle mounting pads.
New right rear splined hub (all others looked excellent).
New up-rated front lower control arm bushings.
New upper and lower front trunnion kits.
New steering rack boots. New engine and gearbox mounts.
New polyurethane gearbox stabilizing rod pads.
New exhaust manifold gaskets.
Oil and filter change (Valvoline VR1 20W50).
New radiator.
New battery cable ends.
Four new steel belted radials and new tubes.
New wiper blades.
New air filter.
New speedometer cable and angle drive.
New fan belt and new water pump.
Wheel alignment.
New ignition relay.
New clutch master cylinder.
We did all this work in October of 2019, just before the Kung Flu hit, so the sale of the car was put on hold. Now, the owner thinks it would be safe to go ahead with the sale, which is why you see it today on Ebay.
Driving impression: The carburetor has been improved with a Moss manual choke. With a pull on the choke and a turn of the key the car starts right up and idles smoothly. It has excellent oil pressure and the engine does not smoke at all (nor does the car"s owner). Acceleration is smooth and strong. All the gauges work properly as do the wipers, turn signals and lighting. The clutch works smoothly and engages exactly the way it should. Braking is very strong and straight. The steering is quite sharp and corning is nice and flat. There are no vibrations at any speed, nor any strange noises. The glass is clear with no chips or scratches (The windshield was replaced when it was restored some years ago). The side windows roll up and down easily. To sum it up, it is a VERY pleasant and obviously well cared for car.
Appearance: This car does not appear to have ever been in an accident. The panel lines are all straight and gaps are exceptional. The paint shines well with very few very minor blemishes. There is virtually zero rust except for a little bubbling in the left lower rear rocker and a small rust hole in the trunk (see pictures). The interior is very nice, and the convertible top is in excellent condition. The top does have one very small hole (Very hard to see) in the center which has been repaired (See pictures).
*Please notice this car was treated to a NEW dash when it was restored. It has no cracks and is very nice.
