Vehicle description
In 1979, the Mazda RX7 coupe was a big hit and also became an instant classic. The RX7 was what we would call today an extreme light weight and the advanced rotary engine gave it plenty of power and acceleration. While the suspension was not the most sophisticated as compared to today, it still endowed the car with lively handling and plenty of stopping power with its disk and drum brake combination. The 4-speed gear boxes were known for their slick gear change and the weight distribution was almost a perfect 50/50. It should be noted that the rotary engine was capable of spinning at 7,000 RPMs and was as smooth as could be, sounding more like a turbine than a gasoline engine. Automobile Magazine quotes the 0-60 time in the high 8 seconds with a top speed of around 118 mph. The well cared for and original owner RX7 in this ad has under 52,000 original miles. The car has been in the northern California/southern Oregon area since new. The car has always been garaged and never driven in snow. This engine was gone through by an RX7 mechanic. The car is in the original red paint with a black interior. The original gold pin striping is just the way it was when it was purchased off the showroom floor with the dealer upgrade. The original window sticker is shown in photos. The car listed for $7,400.00 which was a lot of money in 1979. This is an original survivor car in original paint. Note the car does NOT have Air Conditioning despite the button on the heater controls. It never had AC. Manual windows, No Power Steering, 4-speed manual transmission. Upgrades include: Louvers on the rear window, Fog lights in the front (white rectangles under front bumper), 8 track player in the dash, Air Dam on the front. This is a beautiful car that you can bid to win and be happy that you did. There is a very strong club for the RX7’s that have a lot of events and from what we understand, an excellent newsletter.
