Vehicle description
This 1979 Maserati Merak is an SS model equipped with its original 3.0-liter V6 and 5-speed manual transaxle. Finished in red over a black interior , this is one of 312 Merak SSs produced for the US market . The Maserati Merak was introduced in 1972, while the SS model entered production in 1976 and is visually distinguished by the black grille between the front headlights. Styled by Giugiaro, the body is finished in red. The car retains its original Saint Gobain Securit glass and Campagnolo cast wheels. The padded three-spoke steering wheel and full driver-oriented dashboard and Veglia gauges are shared with the Maserati Bora.
The original 2,970cc 90-degree V6 features triple Weber DCNF 44 carburetors and had a 9:1 compression ratio in SS specification when new. The V-6 dual overhead camshaft engine offers 220 horsepower and there is a five-speed synchronized gearbox shared with the Maserati Bora.
