Vehicle description
1979 DODGE D300 1-TON CREWCAB LONGBOX
This is a clean "79 crew cab dodge 2wd. I had plans to drive it as-is, and then then convert it to a 12 valve 4x4 power wagon when I got all the parts lined up. I decided to do a different shortbed ford I found. I believe lift kits are available for the front and rear of this truck, in case you want to do the 4x4 look without the actual 4x4. From what I"ve seen, the crew cab longbeds are pretty rare. Almost every pic I could find online was shortbox trucks. This is a standard long wheelbase truck. It has a larger-than-normal knapheide flatbed on it. I was going to shorten the flatbed or find a dually box from this vintage. This was a glacier park owned pickup at one point. The mileage on the odometer is 74k. That could be original, as many of the park rigs didn"t get alot of miles on them. I don"t know the whole history though, so I couldn"t tell you if the odometer has rolled over or not. The owners manual and all other original warranty info is included. The truck came with full custom racks built for this bed. I can put them back on if you"d like them. If you don"t plan on using them, it would probably be easier to ship it without the racks. I don"t care either way. I can help arrange shipping if you need. Below are full details on the truck. The last pic is of a different 4x4, for inspiration. Thanks.
MECHANICAL
The truck has the original 360 V8 with 4-barrel carb. It starts right up and runs nice. No smoke clouds. No ticks or knocks. It runs smooth and doesn"t miss. All the gauges work and it has good oil pressure. The engine doesn"t overheat. This has the original carter thermoquad 4-barrel on it. I would either get it rebuilt or put a better carb on it. It hesitates when trying to throttle it too fast. The truck sat for a few years so I"m sure the carb needs rebuilt. If I was keeping it, I"d put a holly or edelbrock on it or a stand alone efi unit. The exhaust isn"t the best. It comes out under the bed. It"s not real loud but if I kept it I"d either add a tailpipe or just a new dual exhaust system. The transmission works great and the clutch works as it should. No slippage and no jumping. All gears work fine. Power steering and power brakes. This has low mileage e-rated 235/85r16 tires on it. They have tons of tread left but are older and have some weather cracking. You"ll have to decide if you want to use them. The wheel covers/simulators were borrowed off another pickup of mine and I"m keeping them. They aren"t expensive and they are available all over online in different styles and finishes. This pickup has factory A/C. The previous owner said it worked but it"s kind of hard to tell here right now because it"s been cold. The belts are still on it but I can"t say for sure if it works. I am guessing it may need charged. This has power steering and brakes that work fine. The parking brake, wipers, lights, heater/selector/ etc. all work.
BODY
The dodge was originally beige. At some point, it was painted white years ago. It was an amateur job but it looks ok. No heavy filler. The only rust is in the drivers side front floorpan where minor rust has started. The floors are still very solid and it wouldn"t need fixed but its there. The rockers, cab corners, sills, jams, inner fenders, doors/doorbottoms, header, cowl, firewall, roof and hood are fine. All doors open/close fine. All windows roll up/down. One of the rear door windows is plexiglass. It looks fine but I would think a replacement can be found online or at a junkyard. The glass may be the same as the front glass but I haven"t measured it. The truck would look better with a chrome front bumper. They are readily available new online. The flatbed is 7"11" wide and 10"8" long. I was going to shorten it if I kept it but I guess you can do what you want. If you plan to put a box on, you could probably get $1000-$1500 for this flatbed. It"s professionally built and in good shape. The body has a couple dings. Nothing major. You can see everything in the pics.
INTERIOR
This old classic mopar has the base model interior. Vinyl seats. I have not taken the front seat cover off but I"m guessing the drivers seat base may have wear. The seat cover fits tight and I didn"t want to have to re-tie it, so I haven"t looked under it. The dash and doorpanels are in ok shape. They make vinyl paint if you want to spruce them up. Seat is comfortable. This has more room in the back than an early ford crew cab of the same vintage. The dash is not cut out, the original radio was just big and it"s gone. Heater works good and selector works fine too. Floormat is usable but ripped up some. I"m sure those are cheap new.
OVERALL
This is a solid old crew cab that hasn"t been beat to hell. I rarely see any crew cabs from the 70"s but the ones I"ve seen are beat up, especially if 4x4. This would be a great truck to use as-is until you do a 4x4 12valve conversion, or do whatever turns your crank I guess. It looks cool the way it is I think. Thanks and happy bidding.
