Vehicle description
Selling a 1979 AMC Jeep CJ5 Renegade " Silver Anniversary” edition with 62,000 original miles. In 79" Jeep decided to build a unique and special CJ5, celebrating 25 years of production (1954-1979). AMC Jeep figured they would build 1000 of these Silver Anniversary’s, to my knowledge no record was kept on the exact number produced. It"s estimated that 850 were built, also its documented that there were about 850 were built, also it"s documented that there were about 850 AMC Jeep Dealers in America at that time. Each dealer received a "Silver Anniversary" to stimulate and promote the rugged 25 year old CJ5. This build was going to be something special, very rare and only made once! They were all built at the Brampton, Ontario, Canada AMC Plant, painted with QuickSilver Metalic 8C paint. No other Jeep model ever produced wore this exact color. The Silver"s rolled off the assembly line with beautiful chrome 15x8 wagon wheels and Goodyear Tracker P/G tires. Renegade decals, Jeep Special equipment soft-top and a medallion badge centered on the glove box door. Interior seating covered with perforated black vinyl, a quilt like stitching pattern combined with Silver buttons! All Silvers received a dash clock, tilt wheel and tachometer. Power brakes, power steering; engines were either the: 258 inline 6 cylinder of 304 V8. Transmission options included the: T-15 3 speed or T-18 4 speed.
This 42 year old spent most of its life in California. 97% Rust-Free, original paint and decals. Jeep had brackets bottled to front bumper for towing capabilities, so some miles are tow-miles! I figure this is a 50,000-55,000 mile rig. Vin/Build plate firewall shows a 3 speed transmission installed, the Jeep has the 4 speed. At some point the rare T-18 4 speed was installed, this transmission has a very low granny first gear that allows the Jeep to creep! Engine under the hood is the 258 inline 6 cylinder wearing most of its original AMC blue engine enamel. 15" Zig-Zag tread tires are date coded 2008 so they should be replaced, 40 year old GoodYear Tracker tire as a spare. Soft-top and doors are vintage Bestop and in good condition! Black Dualmatic bikini top is in excellent shape and preserved inside its pouch. Glove box stacked up with: 79" Owners manual, handbooks, brochures, etc. Also a 1979 Jeep technical service manual included!
This 79" Silver is truly a rare survivor and a Gem! The jeep runs and drives great. I believe in that bin it’s original current condition it could be in the top #25 Silver Anniversary’s the top #25 in the world. These Jeeps are highly collectable, highly desirable, very rare and in my opinion the most beautiful ever built! Si lver Up, Don"t miss out. .
