Vehicle description

Hello, Thank you for your interest in my 1978 Pontiac Trans Am.
I will attempt to tell you as much as I can about this car in the description below as well as in the photos.
First off this is what I would consider a mild "Project" car. Meaning, it WILL need some work to get it road worthy. It runs, drives and stops, but has been off the road for at least 8 years. There are cosmetic imperfections as well as mechanical and electrical work that will need to be done. I want you to have a good understanding of what this car is and also what it isn"t.
What this car is: A solid foundation that looks good, runs well and has a lot of potential It"s a REAL Trans Am with the Build sheet! A car that has had work done to get it to this point. A car that will need work to get it to the next level A classic that is appreciating in value! A great car that needs some TLC.
What this car is NOT: A car that you can fly in and drive 18hrs home A #"s matching car Is not an SE, 4 speed or T-Top car A 50k, 40k or even 30k car the way it is. Perfect, spotless, show winner.
Now for a detailed overview of the car.
Exterior: Paint looks decent and cleans up well, but each panel has numerous paint flaws (chips, scratches, small paint bubbles (not from rust), scrapes, etc. . ) Hood is straight and clean Both front fenders have had a little repair work in the lower rear section Both doors are clean in the corners Driver Quarter and out wheel house have been replaced Pass lower rear quarter has had a repair panel installed Trunk floor is original and SOLID Rear tail panel had some rust in the lower section that was removed many years ago Floor pans have some isolated rust spots. Previous owner wire wheeled the underside of the car and painted black. It could use a good cleaning, but looks pretty good underneath. This help to eliminate any hidden surprises. Body body gap is poor due to quickly installing door and front clip (they were off the car when I purchased) I would consider this car a good 20 footer (looks good from 20 feet away) A good detail and touch up would really help improve the overall look of the car.
Engine/Transmission and rear end: Engine is a WC coded engine. It is NOT the original engine for the car. The block is the "988 XX" Casting that has the better casting like the earlier blocks. The engine appears to have been rebuilt at some point, but this is only from my experience and the cleanliness of the cylinder heads when I had the valve covers off. I do not have any proof of a rebuild or any specs. Engine fires right up, runs smooth, no smoking, funny noise, etc. . Transmission is a TH 350 Rear end is a POSI-Traction. Previous owner had the rear end rebuilt and the gears changed from 2:56 to something better (He could not remember what ratio and I have not determined, but can if desired) Rear springs were replaced at the time the rear end was done. I personally think that it sits too high in the rear.
Interior: New Door panels, driver side door needs to have lock mechanism installed and door panel install finished. Headliner looks like it was replaced and looks good Carpet is decent Seat have normal wear for the age of the vehicle, but would likely clean up much better. Dash pad looks good on top, but someone hacked up the radio area. Console was also hacked up for custom (and not so good) radio install
Electrical: The dash harness and engine harness have been modified. There is a power switch in the console to the HEI. Car starts off the key, but power switch needs to be on for the car to start. Power switch is what turns off the car. My opinion is that the engine, dash and headlight harness should be replaced.
Misc Info: Have not tried to get the radio to work All lights and turn signals seem to work fine (including the trunk light) Brakes are a little soft (I am sure that they need to be bleed) Car has headers installed There is a small welded repair area (looks like it was a tear?) on the pass side front of the lower control arm. Doesn"t appear to be structural at all (if I had to guess, someone hooked a chain to the area and pulled on it and tore it) Body panel gaps are horrible (in my opinion). I did not take any real time to try to get alignment very good due to the overall paint quality. Tires are at least 8 years old Rear window has been tinted Shaker scoop is not correct
Overall this car has a lot of potential, but needs some love. It was apart and on jack stands when I bought it. I got it to the level that it is now and it is ready for you to take to the next level. This is a NO RESERVE Auction. If you bid, know that you could be the new owner! Possible delivery within the state of Ohio and surrounding states at a reasonable fee. I encourage you to come look at the car BEFORE you purchase. I want you to know and understand what you are getting and to be happy with the car for what it is, a 1978 Trans Am that needs some work! That being said, I will WHOLESALE you any of the restorations parts that are needed for the car (such as wiring harness) Example: Engine, dash and headlight wiring harness retail ~$750, my wholesale cost around %575. I want these cars in the hands of someone that will build them and appreciate them, therefore I try to do what I can to help with the cost of the parts. Please ask any questions you have prior to bidding. I have many more photos that I can share as well as any questions. Again, I encourage you to please come look at the car. Thank you!
