Vehicle description

I have up for auction a very unique, and rare find! Some would say "A Survivor". This is 1978, model year, Ford Mustang ll Cobra, with its original 5.0 liter (302 CID) 2V V8 engine, backed by a factory 4-speed, Power Front Disc Brakes and Power Steering (all work well, btw).
This Cobra was built in San Jose, California in the second half of 1977 and sports Ford"s Code 9D, Polar White exterior Paint, with black interior, featuring black vinyl bucket seats. The paint looks to be original, based on the overall patina of the finish and the age of the "King Cobra" decals/striping. Also, I don"t see any overspray anywhere, on the car, or any other indication of a re-paint, but I can"t verify. Likewise, the interior appears to be original, as well, and in very nice shape, showing normal wear. Please view all pics closely.
This Cobra is also equipped with the following features: 13" Raised white letter radial tires, Electric rear window defroster, Tinted glass, Front license plate bracket, Lacy Spoke aluminum wheels, unique "King Cobra" tape treatment on Hood/ sides and rear deck spoiler, with pin-striping all across all areas of the car. It also features Color-Keyed dual sport mirrors, rear quarter flairs, front/rear deck spoilers, black louvers on rear window and flipper quarter windows, black windshield wiper arms, pivoting quarter windows and Rallye Package (which includes extra cooling, heavy duty springs, adjustable shock absorbers and rear stabilizer bar). It also has an inside hood release, and two sets of keys for ignition, doors and hatch.
I discovered it locally from a guy who had trailered it up from somewhere south. He decided to sell it as he had no place to store it for the winter. He said the previous owner stored it in his garage for years, but kept it maintained and ran it now and again.
I bought it because I couldn"t resist the originality and authentic and rare nature of this vintage Cobra, and of course the 4-speed V8 and fancy "King Cobra" decals helped in my decision too! I"m sure a lot of you would feel the same? I actually drove it home!
This is a great running, driving and stopping vehicle! So fun to drive! Everyone Loves the "King Cobra" hood decal!
I did do some maintenance on it when I got it. I replaced the fuel tank (see pic), plugs, wires, oil, fuel filter, air filter, distributor cap, gas cap and hatch lift arms, Battery and had it tuned and greased by a mechanic. It starts right up and purrs like a kitten. Brakes are good (50-60%), clutch is good and it rolls nicely down the road and goes through all 4 gears with ease (reverse too), with P185 70r13 Cooper Cobra tires underneath. The driver front is a replacement tire, but I do have a super nice, spare, Cooper Cobra tire ( not pictured). The dual exhaust functions properly and sounds nice and throaty.
This car was undercoated sometime in the past, possibly by the factory? No doubt saving the undercarriage. None of the windows have cracks, all lights are in working order and all gauges work. The belt buzzer operates as well as the dome light, wipers, both remote mirrors and radio ( although the original radio was replaced with an aftermarket and small speakers were put in each door panel). The doors, hood and rear hatch open nicely, and the side windows open and close smoothly. Unfortunately, as in a lot of cases, there is a crack in the top/middle of the dash pad. Otherwise, the dash, headliner, back seats, door panels and carpet are in good shape. I also have the original 1978 Manual, and a new 302 "call out" air breather decal.
This car is Super Solid all the way around and underneath. A magnet attaches solidly to all metal panels, top and bottom. I believe it has all original panels with no body work every having been done. The rear hatch does seem to be a shade different white tone than the body. Was it replaced, I don"t know? Some surface rust can be seen in various areas, but nothing major, in my opinion (See pics closely). It"s 44 years old. lol. Also, the heater blower motor not working, at this time, and no way to check the rear defroster.
This is a uniquely rare and mostly original Cobra Mustang ll, that you don"t see very often. I"m no expert in Mustang"s, but I know a Sweet Vintage Car when I see it, and I"m confident YOU Do too!
Please view all pictures closely and ask any questions that you may have, as I"m sure I"ve missed some details along the way? I would encourage you to stop over to have a look, in person, if you can or send an Inspector, if you like? THIS CAR IS THAT NICE. I even took the liberty in getting it plated and insured so I could have fun driving it around. It has a clean and clear Indiana title, in my name. Note: The title reads 1977, no doubt the original owner obviously pre-ordered it in 1977, for the 1978 model year Cobra ( possibly one of the first "78 Cobra"s ordered?). Certainly the VIN number and the back seat, etc, will testify to the fact it is a 1978 Model.
The odometer reads 49,796 miles. I believe it to be actual miles? I base that on the originality and the nice looking pedals. Of course there is no way to verify this?
No, it is not a perfect show car and there is work yet to be done, by the next owner. As you can see in the pictures, there are dings, scratches, chips and overall wear and tear, due to age ( see bumpers especially). But, You just don"t find cars like this in this good, original condition anymore. AGAIN, IT IS A RUNNING AND DRIVING CAR YOU CAN IMMEDIATELY TAKE TO YOUR LOCAL CLASSIC CAR SHOW OR TO THE DRIVE IN!
I am selling it with NO RESERVE. As is, Where is. No Warranties and No returns. Bid with confidence, you won"t be disappointed. When will you see another quite like it?
Hagerty Classic Car Values have this car at $12,000 /Fair, and $22,800 /Good condition. Seems this one falls somewhere in-between , based on their standards.
I require a $1000 deposit within 24 hours with the balance to be paid within 72 hours ( we can use a bank to bank wire transfer. I"ll give buyer that info at the appropriate time). Buyer responsible for pickup and delivery. I will assist in anyway I can in the process.
