Vehicle description

In 1978, Chevrolet celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Corvette. As many amazing corvettes that had been made since launching the iconic brand in 1953, it had never been invited to be the pace car at the Indianapolis . .a major honor. In 1978, for the first time in corvette history, that changed. With such a landmark moment in corvette history, corvette decided to release a small handful of special-edition pace car replicas to the public, but there was such an outcry from corvette enthusiasts, corvette reconsidered and decided to make just one pace car for each dealership in the United States. At that time, there were 6,503 Chevrolet dealerships and corvette manufactured 6,503 of these very special Black and Silver Corvette models, each with a unique VIN sequence, a significant change from previous special-edition Corvette s. Following a front-page article in the Wall Street Journal, prices for these limited-edition Corvette s went through the roof as they were quickly snapped up by collectors. Besides the special two-tone paint, each Corvette Pace Car featured unique front and rear spoilers, polished aluminum Red-stripe wheels, mirror-tint roof panels, special interior and exterior badging and contoured sport seats finished in silver leather. An Indianapolis 500 decal kit was also included, but the decals were not applied at the factory, but rather were shipped with each car to the dealership, so the lucky new owner could decide personally whether to have them applied or not. The 25th anniversary of Corvette was marked with one of the most extensively redesigned Corvette s since the 1968 model. The new "fastback" rear end styling featured a large rear window, reminiscent of the lines of the mid-"60s. The interior of the 1978 Pace Car sported a special "clam shell" silver seat package that hugged the driver. It was pure perfection!
I am proud to present this 1978 Chevrolet Corvette 25th anniversary, limited edition Pace Car for consideration. .Number 995 of 6,503. This particular Pace Car includes the highly coveted more powerful L82 350 CI engine with an automatic transmission. The L82 was designed as a high-performance engine, featuring a 9:1 compression ratio that generated 220 horsepower. The L82 engine had larger heads and valves, four-bolt mains, forged-steel crank, high performance pistons and an aluminum intake. Although the cam is stronger in the L82, it"s physically identical to the L48, Chevrolet"s first version of a base 350 V-8 engine. This engine starts right up every time, runs very strong and drives like brand new. With only 39,428 original miles (yes, you read that correctly. .averaging just 896 miles per year!). This vehicle is in practically new condition inside and out and has been kept almost all original. It has never seen snow, Never seen rain and has been garage kept and covered at all times, only being driven for the occasional show (many best in class awards), parade or special event.
This special car is almost entirely original. The few exceptions include a new battery (purchased 9/2021), belts, hoses and bushings, a new radiator, and also replaced the air cleaner cover with a chrome one in addition to regular oil changes with only the highest quality oil. This car has also only been fed premium gasoline. The tires are practically new (only about 1k miles) and still have all of their tread and even the nubs on the outside are still fresh and are wrapped around the original 25th anniversary limited edition red striped racing wheels. The T-Tops installed are the original mirror finish, but included is also a second set of dark tinted T-Tops, 2 sets of keys. Although the original owner preferred the cleaner look without the large pace car door decals, I still have the original decals for both sides of the car, just as they came from the dealership 44 years ago. I also have a commemorative collectors edition 1978 pace car model, still in the plastic wrapped original packaging. I will also include the custom color matched (black and silver) pace car car cover.
Considerations: Sold as-is. This is an amazing car and looks and runs almost as if it just came off the assembly line yesterday, but it has not been bubble wrapped in a show room and has been driven (although not much). Therefore, it does have minor imperfections to include very minor paint imperfections (most people would probably not even notice) and the 8 track player, although in working order, does play a little slow and needs to be adjusted. I do own several classic 8 tracks that will be included with the car and will sound just like it did originally with just a minor adjustment. Otherwise everything works. .auto windows, tilt steering wheel, auto headlights, auto antenna, etc. Please ask any additional questions you may have or request any specific pictures and I will do my best to send to serious buyers.
Additional notes: I live in the greater New Orleans area and pick up or shipping with be the buyers responsibility, but I will gladly work with you and/or your shipping company. Pickup and full payment is required no later than 7 days after winning bid is accepted. Please email today for more information. I have even more pictures, but ebay limits me to 24.
This special car is going to go to some very lucky person. The only question is. .will that be you? Bid strong.
