“I bought this Jeep out of northern Arkansas just over two years ago. I’ve spent a lot of time to source correct parts with appropriate patina to return this Jeep to the period correct look and still have it look like all the parts have been on it since new. My goal was to have a fun, vintage Jeep to drive short distances with my daughter and not worry about getting a scratch on it or kids climbing on the seats but still maintain a classic look. This Jeep has patina which means there are small scratches, dents, chips, fading, and all the normal wear and tear of over 40 years of use.”

Vehicle description

Vehicle Details This no-reserve auction is for a 1977 AMC/Jeep CJ-5 Renegade. This Jeep is in original, survivor condition wearing its original (7L) Loden Green Metallic paint and Renegade hood decals. Powered by an AMC 258 cubic inch straight 6 with a T-150 three speed manual transmission and a Dana 20 transfer case. Original mileage is unknown as the speedometer/odometer has been replaced at some point. The Jeep features power steering, four wheel manual drum brakes, front manual lockout hubs, original Whitco tan denim soft top and doors, and a dealer installed Jeep Special Equipment Warn 8274 winch. The Renegade package included the decals, 15x8 white wagon wheels, aluminum rocker trim molding, sport steering wheel and horn button, black dash surround, black passenger grab bar, and Levi tan denim dash pad and seats. The original Renegade decals on the hood are faded and cracking but still readable with great patina. The Jeep and Levi decals on the sides are new. The original Whitco top has some small cracks in the rear window and the passenger door window zipper has been replaced with a non-original one. The four wheels have been refinished but the spare wheel remains original. They wear older BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires in 31x10.50x15 size in good condition with no dry cracking. The Jeep SE Warn winch works well and comes with the original controller. Correct NOS auxiliary turn signals are mounted but have never been wired up. The hood hinges were stainless and I’ve replaced them with original hinges that I painted the correct Loden Green. The rear seat is a correct Levi’s bench seat however the front two seats are out of a 1979 CJ and have blank buttons (AMC/Jeep lost the licensing deal with Levi after 1978). The passenger seat bottom has split along the seam. The dash pad is in nice shape and is original to the Jeep but does show some fading on the top and one stain spot. The previous owner stated he installed a new wiring harness from Painless but currently the gauges are not working. A new Interstate battery was purchased this year. There is a power steering leak and an oil leak from the rear of the valve cover. The Jeep drives well but there is a slight grinding when shifting into third. Possibly just a clutch adjustment. The brakes work well but occasionally will pull to the right. The front brake hose needs to be replaced. Shocks need to be replaced as well. It is a very solid Jeep with very minimal surface rust and no rot. The frame is very solid even in the rear and around the rear spring hangers. The floor pans are solid but have some patches where a previously installed aftermarket front rollbar had been welded in place. The inside of the tub has been painted black by a previous owner. There are two holes that have been drilled through the side of the tub just below the Jeep emblem on the drivers side as well as two spots just above the rocker trim on the drivers side where a small patch was welded in the floor and burnt the paint. These are the only areas of rust concern on the body. There was something mounted to the tub on the drivers side with four bolts but I don’t know what it was (possibly a Gerry Can) but the bolts remain around the Jeep emblem. I have several parts and gaskets to repair some of the above items that I haven't gotten to that will be included with the sale. My daughter and I have enjoyed cruising this Jeep around the neighborhood and to a few shows. I've tried to return it to as original as possible with all parts maintaining a similar patina. This has been a great Jeep for me but I have other projects that have taken priority and it’s time to pass this one on. There are still things that need to be done to make this a good, reliable driver. This is not a perfect Jeep and still requires work but it has a great vintage look and patina. This would also be a great candidate for a full restoration if that is what you’re looking for. Clean and clear Missouri title in my name. Shipping is the buyers responsibility but I’m willing to store the Jeep for a reasonable time to accommodate shipping. Please message me or call with any questions prior to bidding. I’m happy to take more pictures or video. Images Download the Motors app
