Sir Roger Moore’s personal 1976 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow I - - For Sale! THIS CAR AUCTION IS FOR CHARITY! PLEASEBID! ! !
Vehicle Description 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow I, Beautiful car in fair to good condition, everything is original Powered by a V8 engine paired to a 3 speed automatic transmission. The car has 26,952 original miles. This isan all California car, delivered in California and lived its life in California. This car was originally purchased by Sir Roger Moore of James Bond fame on December 23, 1976 and was registered with a California license plate number 007. He bought it just before beginning to film “The Spy Who Loves Me” in 1977. It is believed but not documented that he owned the car through the filming of the next 4 movies his last being “A View to Kill” in 1985. Subsequent owners were unable to keep the original license plate number but were able to acquire an appropriate number of X 007 which will be released by the seller and go with the car. The subsequent owners have not been kind to this car, and it has several problems. It was donated to Canvasback Missions Inc. in late 2019. The car was in running condition when it arrived but due to uncontrollable delays the car was stored outside with water resistant car covers for protection. Details about Canvasback maybe found at the bottom of this listing. I am a volunteer for Canvasback and I am a car hobbyist not a professional. I will do my very best to describe the condition of the car. I will also answer any question you may have and provide additional photographs as time permits. This is my first exposure to a Rolls-Royce so I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. My complete evaluation of the vehicle is provided below: VEHICLE CONDITION: ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN: The car ran when donated. It was driven in but sat for a significant period. The battery is dead and even when using jumper cables the car will not start. We decided not to try to fix any problem which may or may not exist. Our theory was to do no harm to the car, so it was in everyone’s best interest for us to leave it alone. A visual inspection of the engine compartment shows that everything is in its appointed place; not to say everything works just that nothing is missing. The actual mileage of the car is 26,952 so it would be my expectation that mechanically everything is sound. The hood insulation has a couple of wear marks as does some hose insulation protection. The hydraulic leveling system shows some moisture on top of the reservoir.
BODY: The overall body condition is an 8-9 with two small minor dents. One on the leading edge of the left rear wheel well opening and the other on the right rear fender at and below the side running light. The paint is scratched on the right front passenger door with no other paint scratches. I expect the dents can be removed using paintless dent removal. All of the glass is in excellent condition.
PAINT: The overall paint condition is a 3-4. I found one deep scratch on the right front passenger door. Most of the horizontal surfaces show light cracking much like lacquer paint used to do in times past. There is some discoloration on the hood and trunk. I believe this paint is two-stage either acrylic or urethane? Given the body is in such great condition, I believe a respray of the car with very minimal bodywork is needed.
TOP: The vinyl top needs a complete replacement. There is evidence of surface rust under areas that are exposed but I could not find any areas that were rusted through. Somewhat normal for vinyl tops that are 45 years old.
CHROME: The chrome is in very good condition. An exception would be some light pitting on the front bumper and light scratches on the rear bumper. The rear bumper rubber on the left side is damaged and will need to be replaced.
DASH/INSTRUMENTS: The overall dash is in good condition. The area of the ignition switch has most of the paint chipped off from the key ring. There are two radios both am/fm in the car. There is also evidence that the car may have been equipped with an early mobile phone mounted between the front seats. There are4 small holes and a large hole in the console consistent with a radio/telephone in addition to a cellular antenna on the right rear quarter panel. Due to the battery/not running issue I was unable to test any of the instruments or features.
INTERIOR/UPHOLSTERY: The seats are free of any tears and are not damaged in any way. The dash cap has a couple of scratches as does the right A pillar that look like an animal may have caused them. The door upholstery is also complete and without tears or blemishes. The wood garnish finish is showing cracking and some of the urethane is chipping off of a couple of doors and is faded on the other doors. The bottom windshield garnish is pitted. I believe all 5 garnish pieces will need resurfacing. The headliner is intact and in good condition. The package tray shows evidence of staining and will need attention. Carpeting seems good in all areas except under the driver’s footwell. I found a plastic for sale sign under the floor mat and it had trapped a significant amount of moisture/heat, (muffler directly below?) causing some of the floor insulation and soundproofing to deteriorate. There are two remaining very thick floormats in the trunk; one is fairly faded and the other is in fair condition.
TIRES/HUBCAPS: The hubcaps are in good condition with little to no rash on any. The tires are Michelin and have excellent tread. I do not know the age of the tires but recommend replacing if more than 6 years old.
TRUNK: The carpeting is in pretty good shape except for the piece that covers the battery compartment. The lower area of battery area carpeting is deteriorating and will have to be repaired or replaced. The tools that come with the car are mostly available except for the case that holds them. The jack is included and stored in the trunk area. Canvasback Missions Inc is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing free medical and surgical services to the people in the Micronesia area of the Pacific. We are now preparing to send a Super Team of Orthopedic specialists and support staff in early 2022. A portion of this preparation is to raise funds that will support this team through financial donations, medical supply donations and donations of cars and boats that we can sell to raise funds.
