Vehicle description
1976 Pontaic Ventura NYPD Police Car 100% Authentic Restoration
Please note: This is NOT a Lemans. ebay does not permit a Ventura to be listed for some reason.
In 1976 Pontiac decided to get into the police car business even though Chevrolet was the premier GM police car manufacturer. They came out with a full line up of Police Package Cars. They undercut everyone to get the business that year and NYPD selected them. The Highway Pcts got Catalinas, the rest of the Pcts got Lemans for their patrol cars and NYPD tried a few (not sure of the number maybe 25 to 50) Venturas as an experiment in Manhattan and other Pcts, with using these smaller cars.
This is a recreation of one of those Ventuas. Originally a one owner low mileage (38082 currently) Ventura SJ 4 door which has been de-trimmed to recreate the police package Ventura.Mechanically it is the same as the Police Package 4 Door Ventura (Straight 6 250 ci,2 Barrel Carb, AT, A/C, PS, PB, Bench Seat, Radio Delete for Emergency Light Switch Panel)
The last two pictures in the group are from 1976, and the car number (2641) is the same as one that was In Service. The color pic is the departmental photo.
All mechanical systems on the car have been redone and are working perfectly. The A/C Compressor is new and the A/C system works great. The lights (Signal Stat Dual 375"s with can lights are authentic and correct) and Siren (Scientific Products Mark VII) works perfectly. The two way radio is the correct NYPD Motorola Micor. It lights up correctly when the car is on, as does the SP Mark VII siren box, but the Motorola Micor does not transit or receive. The Roxter light works as it should. The PA system on the SP Mark 7 works correctly.
Here is a You Tube video
if you would like to see the emergency lights operating; https:/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=qny9ZqM6E5s
The car has been completely repainted the correct NYPD colors, then highly polished, and is gorgeous. The rear deck lights are brake/turn signal lights as per NYPD spec at the time. All graphics are correct and new, and the car is now marked for the 5 Pct. The car was originally Z-Barted for rust prevention and has no rust and I think never will since I have never seen a car with so much Z-Barting. There is a hidden AM-FM-CD Blue tooth hands free cell phone radio hidden in the glove box. The Motorola speaker for the two way radio is wired into it for a great sound. The VHF antenna on the roof is for the AM-FM in the glove box. There is an authentic Motorola radio in the trunk for show only. The engine compartment and trunk have been completely refurbished and are like new. If Interested I will send you pictures or post them later.
In conclusion this car is like new. 100% reliable and can be driven anywhere in the continental US.
Please feel free to ask any questions at any time. $500 Down payment due via PayPal within 48 hours of close of auction.
