Vehicle description
1976 Ford Bronco Explorer
I tried to purchase this Bronco about 1.5 years ago when it was listed on Craigslist in CO. I missed out on the opportunity, but was connected with the new owner. I asked him if he ever got around to selling the Bronco if he"d give me first opportunity. Well, about 5 or 6 months ago he reached out to me. He"s in the Army and was moving, so he needed to let the Bronco go. I immediately purchased it without any thought because I remember how awesome it was. My plan was to keep it, enjoy it and fix whatever little issues that arise as they come.
I ended up recently buying a low mileage 1977 Bronco and that"s going to now be my keeper. I didn"t buy this Bronco to resell. But I certainly don"t need 2 of them so this one is going. I"ll give you a full and complete disclosure as best I can. Nobody likes a surprise and I believe in being as transparent as possible.
The Bronco has very minimal rust. Zero rust on the frame and hardly any rust on the floors. The Bronco came to me with replacement front floor boards as there is very minimal rust where the crease is that sits under your heel. Personally, I wouldn"t bother replacing, but the floor boards are here if you decide. The rest of the floors are probably a 9/10 with very minimal surface rust only. That"s really it. The inner front fenders have the notorious rust where the fender meets the firewall. This is a very common Bronco issue and it"s an easy patch as well. The frame is outstanding with really not even much surface rust at all.
The sheet metal is overall nice. The rear passenger quarter was replaced due to minor damage by the previous owner. The tailgate has some Bondo fill in it. Other than that, I don"t believe there are any real issues other than scratches, minor dings, etc. The interior is actually quite nice. The seats were recovered with NOS material and are outstanding. The dash has a crack(s), door cards are a little aged, arm rests have some cracks too. Tire swing is nice and straight.
The entire drive train is original to the vehicle. The 302 engine runs excellent. Compression tested good and I"ve gotten this Bronco to 70 mph with ease. C4 automatic transmission shifts effortlessly. 4WD engages and works with no issues. It"s an excellent driver. However, she"s a leaker. I"m not sure exactly which areas the engine is leaking from, but it can"t be too complicated. I have not had the time to really dig into it. Could be as simple as a valve cover, or could be a rear main seal. I"ve put maybe 5-10 miles on this thing since owning it and I"m not intimately familiar with it. I"m sure with a weekend or two of tinkering you can fix whatever leaks you find. Transmission, transfer case and differentials don"t leak at all as far as I know.
My plan with this was to remove the engine for seal replacement and clean-up, replace the tailgate (comes with a new Dennis Carpenter OEM replacement tailgate) and give her a paint job and enjoy it. The Bronco has an older repaint and the clear coat is peeling in multiple areas. This LUBR has so much potential and needs nothing major. You can also sport the peeling clear coat as it does give it a really neat patina look.
Horn does not work. Steering wheel has some cracks. Heater made a noise but does not seem come on. Lights work, blinkers work, gauges work, radio works, wipers work. Never messed with the auxiliary tank, so don"t know about that.
Come with miscellaneous extra parts. Lots of historical and maintenance documents too.
The fine print: if you press the button, please have every intention to purchase. I don"t have the time to start playing games, relisting, etc. Please, only submit reasonable offers. This Bronco is realistically priced and it"s a good one. No, I will not accept your 17k or 25k offers, so don"t bother wasting our time. Please ask any and all questions PRIOR to purchasing. Please feel free to call with questions 520.789.0875 during decent hours. If I don"t pick up, shoot me a text with your contact information and I"ll call back when I can. I suppose you can drive her home if you"d like, but by god it"s a 45 year old leaky vehicle and things can and do happen unexpectedly. I"d highly suggest showing up here with a trailer and taking her home. Or I can assist with transport as I"ve worked with a very reliable and affordable transporters for a while now who assists with my vehicle collection.
Happy bidding!
