Vehicle description
1975 Mercedes Benz 450SL Convertible with Hardtop in Ikon Gold. 183,000 miles.
Car runs great with no major issues. Starts, runs and drives like it should. No rust and has never been in salt.
The 4.5L starts right up, doesn"t burn or leak oil. Runs quiet and smooth. All the maintenance has been done on the car and it needs nothing mechanically. No issues with the timing chains as they were done several years back.
The 1975 450SLs were notorious for frying everything under the hood thanks to the catalytic convertors being integrated into the exhaust manifolds. I have replaced the convertor-manifolds with later model non-convertor manifolds and it runs much better and much cooler as well. The exhaust system was replaced at that time. The electric cooling fan has been replaced.
Transmission shifts good when it"s warm. Shifting is fine when it"s cold but it likes to hold the gear a little longer than I like. Under acceleration it shifts smooth and there are no leaks. I had it serviced and I was told that is how they shift so I did nothing further.
All new brakes front and rear; pads, rotors, calipers. All new Bilstein shocks. New battery. New windshield. Good tires all around. Front end is tight and aligned. No pulling and no sound over bumps.
A/C works and has been converted to R134a several years back. Heat works well. Power windows work. Vacuum door locks worked slowly and now they don"t. Power antenna does not work. Has an after-market radio that works. All the gauges work. Clock motor runs but has a bad gear. No clicking from the speedometer. All the lights work.
Seats are original and show little wear, no cracks or tears. Small wear hole on the driver side carpet. Top is is good shape. Has the hardtop which I have taken off twice, but never put up the soft top other than when I bought it. Dash has two cracks in it. Door panels are good, drives door panel I took the map pocket off it as it cracks when you get out of the car and push against it. I had the drivers seat padding redone.
Front bumper has some dings in the center of it and the rubber guards have a few rubs on the corners. Back bumper is decent.
Car was repainted several years ago in the original Ikon Gold and is showing its age. Some scratches on the hood and you can see where small dents we not filled perfectly. Looks good at 10ft.
I am selling it as I no longer drive it. I have so many cars that there is no way I can enjoy them all so this one is going on to another happy home.
I can help arrange your shipping in the US or overseas.
