Vehicle description
1974 Dodge Ramcharger SE
The Good:
One year only full convertible with no door frames! Super Solid Western Vehicle which has not seen Northeastern Salt!
The Bad:
Not currently running, although ran when parked in September 2018 Electrical could use a thorough rejeuvination
The Ugly:
Interior could use plenty of help
Brakes, Tires, etc require refreshing
Details:
1974 was the first year of production for the Ramcharger and the only year where the vehicle is a full convertible when the top is removed (note the door windows are frameless). This feature was discontinued in 1975.
I purchased this rig out of Southern Colorado in 2018 with plans on a full restoration. COVID has taught me that life is too short for things you aren"t into 100%, and I"ve decided that if I"m spending the time on restoring an old truck, I would prefer a Scout. My heart"s just not into this Ramcharger.
That said, this was by far the best "74 project Ramcharger I was able to locate in about 3 years of looking for "72-"80 Scouts and "74 Ramchargers. The body is very solid. It has not seen salt, so it hasn"t been devoured by the tin worm as is often the case here in New England.
Not sure what original options this had, but it does have a factory installed rollbar, power steering, power brakes, AM radio, and Sunburst Orange paint (the only extra cost color in 1974). I think you can tell from the pics that the paint is original, and this body holds no secrets, but if not, it is very obvious in person.
A re-manufactured 360 is installed. This is not the original engine. In "74 the base engine was a 318 and the only option was a 440 (my plans involved switching to a 440). This is a literal case of "Ran When Parked". . it ran when I parked it where it is in 2018 as I drove it up the driveway and parked it where it is. . but now the jerry-rigged ignition and starter switch don"t seem to be working. I may play around with this in the coming days, and if this changes I will post it here.
While this rig needs a complete mechanical and interior restoration, the exterior has a rugged patina, or could be easily restored.
Please note that this is a serious listing for serious people who know what they are looking at. If you have been looking for a great "74 Ramcharger project. . this could be your rig!
Will answer any reasonable questions sent my way. Will not tell you my reserve. This vehicle is for sale locally and auction may end early if sold .
