Vehicle description

Rare 1974 BMW 3.0 CS Automatic US-model 1 of 451 This rare 1974 US-model BMW 3.0 CS A (Automatic) VIN 4335104 is 1 of only 451 cars produced for this model. It is powered by a rebuilt longblock/exchange engine with SN +7395175+. The M30 inline-six is mated to an automatic transmission.
The speedometer shows approximately 60,000 miles.
It has 14” FPS Alpina-style light alloy wheels and tires are approximately 80%.
The car is mechanically sound and is a good driver.
The car comes with a clean California title.
This car starts, runs and drives well. It could use a paint job, rust repair and aesthetic work. It is an excellent base for a concourse restoration, or drive as is and see it appreciate, as the E9 coupes are becoming more and more desired.
The car is equipped with an automatic transmission, dual carburetors, power steering, sunroof, power windows, dual headrests, alloy wheels, the original tool kit, jack and spare tire (also on 14” FPS wheel).
The car has a working AM/FM Blaupunkt radio, functional A/C (not very cold). The front windows work great, and the rear windows operate slow to very slow (sometimes they need to be pulled up and down. right side sometimes trips the circuit breaker). Sunroof works. Steering wheel does not appear to be stock.
The engine starts quickly and runs fine. Idle is a little rough when in gear. Ever so small seepage from transmission pan gasket (looks new. oil pan gasket also looks new). There is a super small leak from the power steering pump.
Brakes work. The suspension is a little soft. The transmission shifts fine.
The tan leather upholstery seems to be all original and shows some cracking and looseness on the seat bottoms. All the wood trim is there but needs to be refinished. The headliner is a little dirty and has a small repair. The dash shows three small cracks.
The original color was Siena Brown (009) metallic paint. At some point the car was repainted a darker brown metallic.
The car had an amateur restoration some time ago and a few bubbles are reappearing, mostly behind the wheels on front and rear low on the fenders, and on top of the right front fender (the worst spot).
Walking around the car with a magnet will show very little overall rust and/or Bondo from the earlier restoration. Sure there are some spots where Bondo was used, but surprisingly few. Rocker panels are good. I am not sure if the right front fender needs to be replaced, or if metal work can fix the deficiency. The paint is flaking off at a few spots and shows cracking/orange peel at other spots.
These cars are desirable and so beautiful that a proper restoration would not be a waste of time or money.
There are no signs of accidents anywhere on the car. Restore the car, or enjoy as is – it is a great driver.
