Vehicle description
1973 VW Thing (type 181). Restored rust free Thing, pans replaced , no rust on undercarriage , front disc brake conversion, new gas tank, clutch, shocks, rear brakes. Gas heater not connected, rebuilt original distributor and German carburetor , solid front axle, after market 15 inch wheels, less than 1000 miles on tires. Runs and drives as it should. Spare correct transmission included, original steel wheels (5), and other spare parts. True milage unknown. New Hampshire clean title. I"ve owned this Thing for a little over 4 years. I bought it as an incomplete restoration and finished the work with the exception of the rear seat backs that need to be replaced, and never bought a convertible top. Only occasional use in the summer and stored every winter. ( The Thing Shop sells complete tops with windows.) This car is very true to an original condition Thing as far as the parts and the restoration work that was done to it, the only modifications are the disc brakes and wheels that can easily be changed back to stock. This car is a thrill to drive with no frills, it"s as basic as can be which makes it one of the most unique Volkswagen"s of the 70"s era.
