The car is in Chicago. You are responsible for transport, but I list the options at the bottom.
Title: Clean Illinois Title - See photo, all I have to do is sign and you register it like a normal car
I"ve had a couple people promise to buy the car, only to flake out. Please, be serious! I"m happy to answer any questions honestly and fully so you know what you are buying, and I ask the same in return.
Some folks have asked why I"m selling it I love the car so much. I love 2CV"s and think it"s amazing to drive one outside of France, so I have imported this one and one before it. I go back to France each year so it"s worth it to me to sell after I"ve had my fun. This is the second car I"ve brought back. And now that it"s in my home garage, I can"t park my daily driver, so I am ready to move on.
I love this car, which I personally brought from France in November 2019, landing at the port of Newark. I looked all over France for a specimen like this, one that has been truly cared for and kept original. The vehicle is certified by the Fédération Francaise des Véhicules d"Époque (French Federation of Antique Vehicles- see photos for the certificate).
My 2CV is in great condition. It has been painted with original Citroën colors (I even have the color number, see below). It has been used for Sunday drives and is miraculously almost rust-free with the exception of some flecks of bubbled paint on the bumper. * It starts up immediately and runs and drives like a dream.*
Most recent adventure: I drove the car 400km from Paris to the port city of Antwerp, Belgium, to put it on the ship to the States. Everywhere we went we were flocked by gawkers who asked the history, the story. She ran beautifully through the rain and the sun, over country roads and through small villages (see photos). People are even more curious in the United States!
Work done (I have handwritten documentation): - November 2018: New Bosch battery - August 2018: Old motor with 88,600 km replaced with identical motor with 32,700 km (at this time, the owner set the odometer to 32,800km; there are now under 35,000km, and the combined kilometrage is my basis for the 56,000 miles)
- 2018: two new front tires - 2017: two new rear tires - 2017: brakes worked on and tested - 2016: changed left and right floorboards, plus those under pedals
- 2012: repainted, color reference Bleu Lagune AC639
If you"re not familiar with the 2CV, short for Deux Chevaux (literally Two Horses), this car was manufactured for over 40 years in France and is a national icon. Talk to any French person over the age of 50 and they"ll tell you that this was their first car! The 2CV was designed as a multipurpose vehicle with high clearance, capable of handling rough terrain and farm work as well as Sunday rides in the city. It gets incredible gas mileage - and I put in gas without ethanol.
There are a few imperfections, notably the painting of the bumper, the paint on the headlight stalks, a tiny tear (~1in) in the convertible canvas that I"ve been too lazy to glue back, a couple of impressions on the driver"s side, the seats are old, under the seat covers (and, of course, other details that I can"t think of- the car is, after all, over 40 years old!). The car will be, of course, sold as-is with no guarantees.
Funny enough, with the pollution restrictions on older cars, I discovered that I was actually not allowed to drive it in a big city like Antwerp- -even though the Deux Chevaux is in fact a fuel-sipping joie-de-vivre that consumes less than many modern-day vehicles- especially American ones!
