1972 OPEL GT 1900 / BARN FIND / 80,484 Original Miles Last registered In 1986 / Just rescued. . was sitting since 1986 (thats 35 years) Great collectible German sports car. ."Baby Corvette" They were sold in Buick deaslerships. “Mechanics Special” Engine runs but not driveable / Fairly un-molested car and "Original" Turns over with the ignition key and a toggle switch under dash. .starter works good. Runs with gas down the carb / Dash tach needle moves when running. The car had a fair amount of rust when I got it. This car has been sitting for years and is being sold as a restoration project or a parts car. Its a Southern car. Doors open and close well. Needs complete brakes / brake pedal doesn"t move. Hand brake barely works. Radio missing / Air filter assembly missing / Door panels missing Needs new rubber door seals and weatherstripping. No jack / but has a spare tire. Good glass / windows roll up and down with new crank handles. Bucket seats are rough but I installed new slip-on seat covers Rotating headlights move perfectly with the lever. . but no lights are working. See the pics, lots of little things need to be done. Car is 50 years old. Exhaust needs work. . needs the muffler assembly with the dual tips. Clutch feels good / shifter goes through gears but I have not driven. Comes with clear Florida title.
THIS IS THE WORK I HAVE COMPLETED SO FAR Had the body work done and repainted Corvette “Velocity Yellow” driver quality job. Body work done prior to paint includes body filler and welded in patches. Had some welded in floor patches and floor repairs also done. Had a new welded up battery tray done and I installed a new battery. I was able to free up the rotating headlight assembly. .works with the interor lever. Installed new spark plugs / wires / points & condenser . Had a homemade front spoiler and front belly pan installed. Installed new slip on bucket seat covers. Installed a new shifter boot.
Very cool car, I just don’t have the time to complete it and take it to the finish line. I have too many other projects right now.
This 1972 Opel GT is finished in Corvette "Velocity Yellow". Bumpers and the rear tail light panel are "Matte Black". It is powered by a 1.9-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes working pop-up headlights, "Matte Black" Bumpers, Opel GT factory gauges including a tachometer. A nice set of "roller" quality steel wheels / good "roller" tires. New sport wheel covers. The most recent work occurred this summer and included a lot of body work and floor work and a repaint to "Velocity Yellow" it was "Chrome Yellow" originally. A oil change, and simple tune up with plugs and wires. This 1972 Opel GT comes with a clean Florida title. Please keep in mind this car was sitting for 35 years untouched. Its a great project car for a mechanic or a handy person. Interior is black / white. Headliner in poor condition. Missing the door panels and rear side side panels. There is no carpet. This car was originally "Chrome Yellow" from the factory and was just re-painted to a Corvette "Velocity Yellow" this summer. It looks good but its a driver quality job. I will help with the loading the car at the time pick up. It rolls and steers easily.
