Vehicle description

1972 Mercedes-Benz 350SL 59,000 Documented Miles 1 Owner Texas Car Complete Survivor in Excellent Condition with Camel Leather Interior Ice Bold Behr A/C Needs Nothing Production #5206 Last US R107/350SL ever built.
If you are in the market for a original, yet very drivable R107, with the early "euro" style bumpers, no emissions equipment, this is the car for you. The 1972 Mercedes 350SL was a 1 year only car in the US. Here is why. The European versions were 350SL"s, fitted with the 3.5 liter V8 and for the United States, the cars got a 4.5 litre V8. The US versions of the 350SL left the factory with a "350SL" badge, but were actually 450SL"s. This particular 350SL is chassis #5206, which was the very last 1972 350SL ever built.
It is my opinion that this car was some type of preproduction 1973 holdover. It"s VIN # 107.044.12-005206 shows that it was build as a US spec 1972 350SL, with a 4.5 V8, Built in July 1972, and was the 5206 chassis built. .which says it is the last 1972 built. What is interesting is the car has power windows, and the correct 1973 steering wheel, which. .the car came with n new. So, all I can say is the car was built with the 2 options you couldn"t get in 1972, but. . this is a 1972, with those options, and correct per the data plate option code 585, right there on the data plate.
Mercedes just decided to call the US Versions 350SL"s for 1972, because they had no 450SL badges built. However, the factory later sent 450SL badges to Dealers to replace the 350SL emblems with 450SL emblems. .but I don"t think many people actually changed them. Chassis #5026 has a 450SL rear emblem. It is so late of a car. .I"m not sure if they knew what to call it at that point.
In any event this vehicle has a July 1972 build date and has a VIN # of "5026" ie. 10704412-0005026 I did a LexisNexis search on VIN 5027-28-29, etc. and none of these were ever or currently registered in the US, so. .this car was and is the last registered 350SL R107 in the US.
This car was last registered 1972 Mercedes Benz in North America in 1972 and then was transferred to a MB Executive in the US. I bought the car from his Estate. The car is code 920 Deep Blue with Camel Leather interior. The car is rust free, no rust in the superstructure, rockers, rear floors, spare tire well, etc.
The car is a true 59K mile survivor. Excellent paint, interior, and top (s). Car runs and drives great and everything works as it should. A/C cools to 51F, (R12 freon) car never runs hot. It starts easy, shifts well, stops excellent.
Major service was just recently completed on the car to include new, pads, reconditioned rotors on all 4 corners, belts, hoses, all fluids exchanged, timing chain, timing chain guides, timing chain tensioners, gas tank cleaned. Radiator acid dipped and refurbished. Becker Stereo sent to Becker USA for refurbishment!
Car needs absolutely nothing to drive and enjoy.Car comes with books, manuals, 2 keys, maintenance folio, service records, etc.
I"ve priced the car to sell immediately, and the car is for sale on other venues, this auction can and will be ended in the event of a sale outside of eBay.
