Vehicle description
1972 Jeep Commando:
Runs well - It sat for several years. I rebuilt the carb, installed a new fuel tank, fuel pump and fuel filter and flushed the lines. I also changed all the fluids. Now, it starts, runs well and idles great. But this is still a project and needs some attention.
It may need a new battery soon.
It needs new tires before it goes far. It currently has 33x12.5R15 tires.
The power steering is not working. It needs either a pump or new lines, or both. The steering box is newer. I drove it about 5 miles yesterday and it was fairly tough to turn without power steering.
The transmission shifts as it should and works in all gears, but the shifter needs attention. I believe the spring that holds the shifter into the specific gear is broken or unhooked. If you hit a bump, the shifter will drop into the next position on the selector and change gears. I hold it in place when going over bumps.
The license plate light is broken. The turn signals, brake lights and headlights work.
The gas gauge does not work. It has a new sending unit, but it needs a new wire from the sending unit to the gauge. The other gauges seem to work.
It is missing the stereo faceplate so it needs a new stereo.
Spring over axle conversion - The previous owner did the conversion but it seems to be done properly.
Full roll cage.
This is one of the most solid Commandos I have seen. There is almost no rust on the body. There is a small spot in front of the left rear wheel. A tiny bubble at the top or the right rear quarter panel, just below the top, and a little bubbling by the right rear marker light. There is rust along the bottom of the tailgate. I would replace it. The rest of the body and floors are completely solid. (There are photos of each rust spot)
The odometer read 18,896.7. I assume it"s 118,896.7 but I"m not sure.
The top is removable but I have never taken this one off.
The interior needs a good cleaning. It is dusty from sitting. The front seats are not original but they work. The rear seat is original and in decent condition.
This Jeep would be a great project and I don"t think it would need a lot to get it running and driving. It will drive onto your trailer.
Clean AZ title.
