Here we have a very nice original 1971 VW Transporter. This is the Camper version that has the tin top. All paint and body panels appear to be original. All interior is in fair original shape. The engine appears to be a factory remanufactured engine which has good compression thru all cylinders and has normal power for this bus. It has had 2 new cylinders and 2 new pistons and a new head fitted due to a burnt valve. Not a complete rebuild just 1 side of the engine. The transmission shifts fine with good syncros. The clutch is new, rear main seal has been replaced. This bus starts right up and drives fine. Steering is good, brakes work fine. It was parked in 1993 when the owner passed away, covered and left. We have looked it over and found very minimal rust. A couple of small holes where battery sits, bottom of passengers door, and small hole where front window meets body. Drive it as is or restore as you wish. They are only original once and i think it will be hard to find a bus in this original condition. It has a bunch of service records dating back to 1971, and from what we can tell its only had 1 owner. I spoke with the daughter and she had fond memories of camping with her father in Mammoth CA where he was a volunteer back in the day.
