Vehicle description
This listing is for my 1971 Pontiac Formula. I have owned this car for more than 12 years. It has been a great project car that is truly rare and always gets thumbs up when driving it. This car was originally sold in Northern California where I believe it spent most of it"s life. It was originally Tropical Lime green with Green interior. It never had a vinyl top. It looks like it had one repaint many years ago. It was not painted in the correct Tropical Lime color but that color can be seen in various places on the car. There was very little rust repair needed on this car The truck floor was replaced as there had been a wet blanket in the trunk for may years. There was a small patch on the passenger side lower quarter panel. That is just behind the rear wheel. This car is not a numbers matching car. The original 400 engine was replaced with a 1970 400 that was professionally built. The heads are 1969 large valve #62 from a 1969 GTO. The carburetor is a Q-Jet and there is now Pertronix in the distributor. This engine runs great. The transmission has been replaced by a 200-4R that was rebuilt with a performance upgrade and higher stall torque converter. It shifts fairly hard and will bark the tires going from 1st to 2nd. I could not imagine driving one of there cars without the overdrive. The original rear end was an open 3.42:1 10-bolt. It could not be rebuilt and was replaced with a 3.42:1 10-bolt Posi out of a Z-28. This rear end has been completely rebuilt. The suspension was rebuilt with polyurethane bushings. The front sway bar has been replaced with a heavy duty sway bar. It has new shocks all around and the rears are AC Delco air shocks. The steering box has not been rebuilt and will need it as it has a small leak. It has a rebuilt heavy duty 4 row radiator. I also added a transmission cooler. The exhaust is new Flowmaster. This system has the cross-over pipe and aluminized coating. The cross-flow muffler is mounted in the correct place and sounds great. The engine has Hooker headers that I believe I had recoated in ceramic powder coat. It originally had Green Deluxe interior. I replaced most of this with black interior. The seat belts will still need to be replaced or died black. It has new carpet and headliner. The back of the rear seat will need t be reupholstered as it is from a later car and has the wrong pattern. The center console has been modified to add a drink holder and a power port. The power port has not been connected yet. The mileage on the listing is not accurate. It is as displaced on current odometer. The speedometer and dash cluster was replaced with cluster with gauges. All the gauges and the tack are functional. The wheels are 15x7" Pontiac Rally that have been powder coated. No beauty rings have ever been installed on these wheels. The tires are P235/60R15 BF Goodrich with few miles on them. Overall, this is an exceptional car. It has the PHS documentation and several receipts. I have driven it multiple trips of more than 200 miles so I know it is reliable. Mostly it has been driven around town. It will need a few things to finish it and paint. I"m just selling to thin the heard a little.
