Vehicle description
1970 Rover P6 3500S sedan, grey paintwork (colour is actually called "burnt grey") with red interior. 3.5 litre v8, Borg-Warner auto transmission.
The 1970 3500S was as high a spec as the P6 got, with factory a/c, electric windows, and ice alerting system (yes, really). I bought this one a few years ago intending to fully restore it; I got it running and spent a bunch of time collecting parts but that was about it.
Mechanically, it needs some work. The engine was converted to UK-spec carbs, and thus has a manual choke rather than the awful auto choke originally installed. The transmission slipped pretty badly, but I do have a spare auto box to go with it. I was going to go the 5-speed route - I have the correct LT77 5-speed "box to go with it also if you like. The engine had good compression and sounded fine when it was running. Suspension also seemed OK, the exhaust system will need replacing. It last ran in 2015, but it cranks freely and the ignition system is good. It has an electric fuel pump, but the fuel tank probably needs a thorough flush at the very least.
Electrically, most things worked. The factory a/c is disconnected. The original electric windows work, albeit slowly. The ice alert system isn"t connected.
Body is rust-free (a lot of it is aluminum), the front carpets are missing so the floor pans are easily visible. There"s a dime-sized hole in the driver"s floor pan, but it"s so perfectly round I"m convinced it"s for a drain bung or something. The trunk has obviously had water in it in the past, but it"s solid and is now dry. Tires are all good (front two are new).
The seats are the original red box-pleat leather items, I also have a spare set that were re-trimmed in red velour if you like.
Overall, it"ll be a great car with some work. It"s a good, solid project base and I"ll be sorry to see it go - but I"m moving and it can"t go with me!
Clear Oregon title. Sold as-is, where-is, with no reserve. More than happy to help with loading/shipping the car if required. Will need to be towed/trailered as it"s not currently running. Payment in cleared funds within seven days of listing end, please.
