Vehicle description
PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE ASKING ANY QUESTIONS. I am going to be brutally honest about the car however there could be some details I am not aware of.
Anything I type with caps lock is just to make sure the viewers understand and are aware.
Ebay only allows 24 pictures, I have more pictures available if you want to see something specific and can send them to your e-mail.
PICTURES OF THE CAR ITSELF WERE TAKEN BEFORE THE ENGINE AND TRANS WERE REMOVED
THE WHEELS AND TIRES PICTURED ARE GONE. IN THEIR PLACE ARE OLD MAGNUMS AND FACTORY STEEL WHEELS. 2 OF EACH IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, (CAR IS CURRENTLY WRAPPED UP) ALL WRAPPED IN VERY OLD BIAS PLYS.
Here is a very rare and desirable 1970 Mercury Cylcone GT M-CODE, 4-SPEED. I am listing this as a project or parts car. I believe the car is very restorable but will take a very skilled set of hands to fix. I don"t believe the car was ever hit, it is very straight and the body gaps are nice. Side glass lines up well and the doors shut solid. The car rusted in the typical areas like the rear quarters and amateur work was done to fix it which is why I believe the car looks the way it does. I can tell the car was repainted twice, once to medium blue and again to the original Ivy Green. I do NOT know what is under the paint.
-Under the hood has rot all the way across. However the front lip solid so I think the hood is salvageable -Will need passenger side fender apron and battery tray. -Passenger fender has a hole near the bottom -The bottom lips of both doors are solid but again, I don"t know what is under the paint -Will need a passenger front floor thanks to a leaky heater core. Passenger torque box will need attention. - There is a hole about the size of a baseball in the driver side seat riser. -The rest of the floor is SOLID -The cowl vents and radiator support are SOLID - Three of the four wheel house lips are SOLID. (Excluding the driver side rear wheel lip) -The worst part of the car metal wise is the driver side rear quarter. I will let the picture speak for this. However I have a very good original quarter from another car with its original paint that can be used to make patches. (See Picture) - Trunk lid is shot, but I have another one (See Picture) - Trunk floor is SOLID minus some miscellaneous pin holes -WILL NEED rear quarter drop downs.
I had the engine running briefly before removal. It didn"t blow smoke and idled as it should. The engine is a 351C-4V M-code with closed chamber heads. I have been unable to find a VIN stamping but the block, heads, and intake are ALL DATE MATCHING to the build date of the car. I have confirmed the 4-speed trans to be matching numbers so I strongly believe the engine is too. Upon draining the engine oil, the oil looked good. (No chocolate milkshake or metal shavings.) I took the top half of the engine apart to re-gasket since it sat for many years. While I was at it I had a reputable machine shop modify the heads for roller rockers (See Picture) The machine shop recommended a valve job since the exhaust valves weren"t sealing correctly so that work was done as well. I replaced the oil pan, water pump and installed a lightly used double roller timing chain I had laying around. The oil pump looked good so I just cleaned it and replaced the pick-up tube. The exhaust manifolds are still attached to the rest of the exhaust but I do have them
The short block IS STILL ORIGINAL AND NEVER BEEN APART by the looks of it. Stock bore, factory pistons, factory cam, THIS IS NOT A REBUILT ENGINE.
-THE EDELBROCK AIR GAP INTAKE THAT IS PICTURED IS NOT INCLUDED, SAME WITH THE ENGINE STAND. You will be getting the original intake which has been cleaned up and repainted. It is currently on my 72" Mach 1. Upon sale of the car and a deposit has been made, I will begin to swap them out. I need to leave the Mach 1 movable as long as possible. -In short the engine turns over and makes compression. It is in running condition and I have the original distributor and alternator - Also I have the original carb with the ID tag!
Now the transmission- -The 4 speed shifted as it should and it moved the car but after removing the top cover I noticed a couple teeth on one of the gears has been flattened so I recommend a rebuild. I have a picture of this. Everything else looked good. -The Hurst shifter worked great but could use a cleaning. -I have the driveshaft, just forgot to get a picture of it. -The flywheel has been resurfaced and comes with a new clutch and starter
The rear end has 3.25 gears and is NON POSI (OPEN GEARS).
The interior is all there except the console. The front seats, door sills, kick panels and lower dash trim were removed so I could get pictures. The carpet, lower dash, steering column, door panels, rear seat, rear trim panels, headliner, dome light are all still installed. Still has original rim blow wheel.
I have the clean title and Marti Report
Factory options: -Two Tone Paint Delete -Evap Emission System -Console (missing) -Power front disc brakes -Tachometer Instrumentation Group (coolest part of the car)
Car was built on 11/26/69 and sold new in San Diego on 12/13/69
One of 86 built with Dark Ivy Green and Comfortweave Hi-back Bucket Seats! !
A few things to note: - I am not interested in parting out piece by piece and I am not interested in selling just the drivetrain -However I would consider selling the rolling shell, trunk lid and quarter panel at a negotiated price -Or I keep the engine, flywheel, and bellhousing and the buyer takes everything else at a negotiated price -If the potential buyer takes everything and I get at least $5600 I will throw in the following trim pieces: -Hood trim -Front "eyebrow" trim -Trunk trim -Rear quarter extension trim All in restored condition.
If you have any questions or I missed anything send me a messege. Thanks for looking.
