Vehicle description

1970 Mercury Cougar Convertible. This car was a Garage Find. This is a very interesting car as it is the #2 car built for the 1970 Model year (0F94M500002). If you Google "1970 Mercury Cougar Brochure" this car appears. As I understand it, this is the car that was used for the brochure. I cannot verify that, but it is reasonable to think that the #2 car would have been used for marketing. Car Runs and Drives very well. The car was stored with the top down. Added fluid to the power top pump and the top functions flawlessly and is in excellent shape. The rear brakes were frozen. The rear drums were removed and cleaned up - Car stops great! A new battery was installed and the engine turned over. The engine was started off of a gas can and it fired up surprisingly quick. Gas tank was cleaned. The engine runs surprisingly smooth for a car that has not operated for a long period of time. Car Runs & Drives very well! Car was originally a 351 Cleveland 4-barrel. Currently has a 1973 351C 2-barrel set up. Original Transmission was an FMX. Current is a C4 that was just had rebuilt - Shifts perfectly. Power steering Pump & Valve have been replaced as well as the starter. I have the Marti Report that verifies what this car was and confirms how this car came from the factory. Car was restored at some point. I would guess 20 - 30 years ago. It is a very respectable driver that you can work on / play with as you drive it. Car has typical bumps and bruises that you would expect on a 50 year old car. Paint has held up ok and shines nicely as a driver. Glass is good. Chrome is good. All gauges work except the Amp gauge. Headlight doors function perfectly and all lights work. This car has the really cool sequential turn signals that function flawlessly. I understand that the engine is the incorrect set up and that the seat covers are from a Mustang, so you do not need to contact me to point that type of stuff out. The car will need some work t0 it to its" former glory. Please focus on the fact that it is a 1970 convertible. THEY ARE NOT MAKING THIS CAR ANYMORE! ! You can work on it as you drive and enjoy it. I would be happy to send any photos that you require. Please contact me with any questions.
