Vehicle description
1971 De Tomaso Mangusta 401 produced Long 39 year single ownership Preserved Desert example with no rust ever! Rare color combination Extremely original 19,000 mile example. Freshly rebuilt drive line Largely original paint with stunning Blood oxide original interior hides. Over a period of 3 years Classic Investments Inc rebuilt car while keeping originally at the forefront of engine build. Correct 302 engine was completely rebuilt along with brakes,Shocks, water and fuel system. New tires made a world of difference to the way this Mangusta drives. ZF Transmission was checked and found to be in top condition shifting effortlessly in all gears up and down. Air conditioning was completely rebuilt to new condition with a few upgrades to make sure it blows cold in a hot environment. There is one modification that Mr Holm did. He installed GT 40 style head lamps instead of the pop up headlamps. He told me he did this in the early 1970"s soon after acquiring the car. WE decided because they were fitted so tastefully "In Period" that it was acceptable to leave. [ Original buckets come with car ] Cosmetics are in amazingly excellent condition and mostly original still to this day. Chassis has all of its original factory undercoating with no deatiling so one can see it"s unmolested and dry state! Engine compartment is the same except the units that have been rebuilt. There was never any attempt to totally restore this remarkable original 19k mi Mangusta. The originality is rare in these type cars and this gives it most of its value. The interior is remarkable to say least with original mouse hair still intact and original leather hides and carpets all in their respective fabulous conditions. The trunk felt hasn"t been scuffed like many other Mangusta"s and hence lays in it"s original condition from 1970. I the owner of Classic investments Inc in Englewood Co never intended to sell this special car but due to a car I bank rolled and took to Pebble Beach this year it will need to help pay for that restoration. Nice Mangusta"s in exceptional condition bring from $320 to 400k these days. A rare chance to own one that hasn"t be altered form most of its originality. History: Erle Holm [ see lic plates ] was a car enthusiast back in the 1960"s and 70"s who lived in Orange county area of the greater Los Angles. In 1971 he"d come across an ad in local paper
