This 1970 Chevrolet Nova comes from the final year of big block availability and is powered by a numbers-matching L78 396 ci - 375 HP V8, backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. The car was acquired by the the seller and his friend 7 years ago out of a private collection in Texas. Engine and suspension overhauls were reportedly carried out under current ownership along with installation of a new clutch and a rebuild of the 3.55:1 differential. This Nova is located and stored in Oakville, Ontario and is offered with a clean title in the name of the seller’s business. Originally Forest Green with a black vinyl roof, the car was repainted approximately 20 years ago in its current metallic green according to the seller. A scratch is pointed out on the cowl, and a handful of chips are visible in close-up photos, which also detail the bright work, badging, and lighting. Magnum 500 wheels are mounted with period-style Goodyear Poly glass white-letter rubber, while the spare steel wheel wears a new BF Goodrich radial. The roof was finished in matching green rather than vinyl during the repaint. The car is said to ride at stock height, and the suspension was overhauled two years ago. The cabin is finished in tone-on-tone metallic green vinyl with a matching dash pad, headliner, door panels, carpets, and weather stripping. Controls consist of an SS-labeled 2-spoke wheel and Hurst cue ball floor shifter, while instrumentation includes a horizontal speedometer and an in-dash tachometer. The 5-digit odometer shows below 200 miles, with total mileage unknown. Approximately 250 miles have been added during the sellers’ 7-year ownership. The L78 396ci - 375 HP V8 features a numbers-matching block. A compression check shortly after the seller’s acquisition resulted in an overhaul with a fresh camshaft and hydraulic lifters in place of the stock solid lifters. An aftermarket carburetor replaces the factory item, which is included separately. A new clutch was also installed, and a 4-speed manual sends power to the rear wheels through an overhauled 3.55:1 rear end. Additional under hood features include an electronic distributor, stock chrome rocker covers, and a power brake booster. An oil change was carried out in 2017. Block number 196384 can just be made out in the 1 of the photos provided and matches the last six digits of the car’s identification number as pictured in the gallery below. Records from the mechanical overhauls are unavailable, though the seller is able to put prospective buyers in touch with shop that performed it. With such features as the four-speed transmission and an optional factory AM radio, a powerful Nova SS such as this warrants further enjoyment.
