Vehicle description

1969 Karmann Ghia Cabriolet Project - After 20 years of ownership, its time to give it up to someone who will do justice to this classic little car. I bought it in 2001 in Alabama and trailered it home to Indiana, stripped it down to a rolling chassis, boxing all the parts, had the body media blasted and primed with self etching primer, and accumulated a lot of parts for the big restoration that never happened. It has been stored indoors for all of the time I have owned it. A new project has come along, and its time for the Ghia to find a new home. If you have read this far, you probably already know that 1969 is THE year for Ghias. IRS, small taillights, bullet turn signals, glass rear window, front disc brakes, and classic "over-rider" bumpers make this the enthusiasts" Karmann Ghia - and this one is the Cabriolet. Compared favorably to the original Porsche speedster in Car&Driver magazine of the era. Lots of extras - I will not separate, so please don"t ask. Two engines - the original 1500 single port (ran great) and IRS transaxle (worked fine through all the gears). Second engine is an AE dual port - I think 1972 - the hottest type 1 engine at 46bhp from factory (stock, never run), and a second IRS transaxle. Two top frames, one bare, one with white vinyl top that could be reinstalled. Original glass window and hardware, and all glass is included and intact. Two extra doors and an extra hood. Complete, original, no-tears brown vinyl interior is included also. Two brand new heat exchangers, door interior panels, and Rocky Mountain Motor Works new wiring harness included. A proper 1969 dash pad and woodgrain vinyl for the dash from RMMW is there too. I planned a restomod and there is an original Holley Bugspray carburetor with a new rebuild kit and two chrome bugspray manifolds for the singleport. There is a new body rubber seal kit from RMMW, original and extra set of overrider bumpers and two NOS rear bumper ends. I also bought a host of steel repair panels for the rear quarters and wheel arches and rocker panels (3 piece including correct convertible support rail). I"m sure there is more that I cannot remember. All of the pieces are there, everything was boxed and saved together with alot of new parts and some extras the buyer could re-sell to fund the project. I did put an adjustable front axle on it but original is included also. There is a set of "sun bug" wheels included that I had planned to chrome for the car also.
The right front fender was dented when putting into storage unit in 2016 by ramp of trailer dropping onto it. I have a clean indiana title in hand for the car. The original color was Chromblau (light blue). Again, I will not separate or part out. I know there is probably more money there in parts, but I don"t have the time or interest in that. If you do, buy it and part it out. Buyer will need to bring their own car hauler plus truck or van to take all the parts home. I WILL NOT SHIP. Car is stored almost 100 miles from my home, so I cannot go take more pictures easily. Car is sold as-is where-is. For someone willing to put in the necessary work this project can be made into an amazing ride. Buyer has 14 days to pickup after completion of auction.
