Vehicle description
THE CAR SPECIFICS This is one of only 1,611 Sonett II"s built between 1967 and 1969, car #1044. 1968 saab sonett sold in 69 with 69 title, The glove box door may be confusing as they didn"t have them in 68 - I put it in to hide all the papers I place inside of it. This is one of only 1,611 Sonett II"s built between 1967 and 1969, car #1044. It has a 1972 sonett - German Ford V4 and 4 speed column shift transmission. It runs, drives and stops with 131K original mileage - 2,546 miles and 3 years on new engine and clutch and paint, and new wheels from England. Paint has now thinned out with 3 years of ageing and and shows a slight fiberglass grain if one looks very up close - on the top of the car behind front windshield and the flat area just above rear wheels- other than that the car looks beautiful. The transmission works great. This Sonett has approximately 130 hp with front wheel drive, rack and pinion steering, front disc brakes, semi-monocoque steel frame and fiberglass body. It has brand new shocks all around, new axle straps. I purchased this car from a man in California who said it was a one owner car before he bought it a couple of months before. It also was originally bought new in California. Its re-done interior is very sound. All glass is good but the rear glass was replaced 2 years ago with a plexi reproduction. This car was sold to me as having no rust. But I found rust in the drivers side rocker panel and repaired it with a new one. I believe some time in the future the right hand side will need replacing - but not now as it looks fine at this time. It has no other rust. VERY CLEAN CALIFORNIA CAR that"s been stored in my garage since and has seen no rain.
The easily removed wiper motor has become non working from lack of use and will need to be sent in to Mark Ashcroft for rebuild. I called he said that would cost $199.00
I"ve driven this car twice a month on dry days to and from work, approximately 26 miles round trip on the highway. It"s a very reliable beautiful car that is solid on the highway.
Title is clear and in my name.
THE ENGINE SPECIFICS
Intake manifold, weber carburetor , upgraded cam, and exhaust from famous saab racer builder Jack Lawrence. Engine was then built using these SPECIALLY DESIGNED parts from "Jack Lawrence" by ALSO famous saab racer and builder "Bud Clark", - then installed into the car by saab expert "Mike Clough." The 1972 saab engine (1700) built by Bud Clark (J&b imports) included rebuilt heads with hardened seats, balanced and blueprinted, domed pistons for higher compression, lightened fly wheel, new clutch, etc. I have since removed the Jack Lawrence intake and carburetor and replaced it with a more conventional two barrel weber and intake manifold. The reason for this was because of my desire to have a car that was easy to drive slowly on the streets of my city with a good amount of torque. Because of this change of intake set-up I will also send the Jack Lawrence set-up along with the car ($1,100.00 in cost) as it ran with tremendous horse power and would be perfect for any type of racing.
