Vehicle description
Up for sale is my 1968 Oldsmobile 442. This is a genuine 34487 VIN 442 Holiday Coupe with original paint, and almost entirely original interior - (only front seat-bottoms have been replaced). I am the third owner of the vehicle since 2013, the second owner being my oldest sister who owned it from 1998 until I purchased it.
My sister picked the car up from a local used-car lot specializing in classic cars called Ramsell Automotive, and I still have the original plates she came with and the frames from the lot. My sister and I are the only two in the family who really appreciated Oldsmobiles , so after she saw the care I give to my Vista Cruiser, she allowed me to work on her car and eventually sold it to me. Near the end of my high school career in 2011, I borrowed the car to perform a mild refresh consisting of basic suspension upgrades, a vinyl top replacement, and window re-seals. The car has been loved by and driven by me ever since. I, of course, have documentation of all repairs, upgrades, and maintenance from 2011 ‘til now.
My vision for the car under my ownership was to emulate and tribute the “street machine” era of the mid-1970s, while still preserving originality to the car. Out back are a pair of 15x10 Ansen Sprint slot mags and they’re complemented by a pair of Western Wheel 14x7s to accomplish a massive rake. All seventies-style modifications performed (air shocks, pinstriping, and wheels/tires) can be easily reversed and I have all the parts to do so for the right buyer if preferred. A local online automotive publication had this to share about my Olds : https:/ saveclassiccars.net/2015/05/14/1968-oldsmobile-442-time-travel/
During my sister’s ownership the 400 CID V8 was replaced (circa 2000) with a 1970 455 396021F block with G-cast cylinder heads. The transmission is the original floor-shifted TH400 and the differential is the original 12-bolt O-type rear end with the optional 3.42 ratio.
This 442 is loaded with some really cool , rare, and quirky options. A factory 8-track player currently displays my copy of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”, and if I pop the trunk from the vacuum-powered trunk release (located in the glovebox) you will find the original bias ply Firestone spare tire and GM bumper jack and tire iron. As popular as the fender stripes are on restored cars, they were surprisingly not an incredibly common option from the factory. Boasting not only original fender stripes this car is also equipped with the deluxe interior package; a striped dashboard, illuminated + locking center console & glove box, walnut shift knob and steering wheel, and quality stainless lap belt buckles.
As a mostly unrestored car, there are of course a few areas for improvement. The original paint and body, though straight and clean does have some rust in the typical spots for the GM A-bodies (rocker panel and lower rear quarter). As the car was daily driven for a good period of time, the driver’s seat shows wear and the passenger seat has some stitching undone (above one’s right shoulder, when seated). My little time machine has grabbed lots of attention over the course of my ownership and runs like a top! I’ve done all in my power to keep it as clean, reliable, and powerful as possible. I’m happy to answer any and all questions you may have about my 442, and more photos are available through this photobucket link (and even more upon request). https:/ app.photobucket.com/u/jjdrez

Thank you much for checking it out, and I hope you appreciate it as much as I have! -James D.
