Vehicle description
Morgan Plus Four. This is a 1968 Morgan Plus 4 Roadster chassis no. 6582, engine no CT78366. In business since 1910, the Morgan Motor Company of Malvern Link, Worcestershire, built its first four-wheeled car in 1935. Until that time, all Morgans had been three-wheelers. The new model was designated 4/4, signifying four wheels and four cylinders. The original 4/4 used a Coventry Climax engine. When revived in 1955, the 4/4 used British Ford power. From 1954, a Plus 4 model became available, using the bulletproof Triumph TR-3/TR-4 engine. This quickly became the preferred Morgan, especially in North America.
This 1968 Plus 4 is one of the last of the model, shipped from the factory on September 8th, 1967. Power comes from a TR-4 engine fitted with twin Stromberg SU6 carburetors and a manual transmission. It has been in my family for nearly its entire life. Garage stored and maintained, it has most recently had a complete brake system overhaul. Around 50 years ago, we also converted the car to a typical negative ground system.
The body was re-painted red in 2007 (original color). The underside was also recoated earlier this year. All new upholstery/leather in 2007 but less than 200 miles ago. The twin bucket leather seats have adjustable height using classic British engineering (inflatable seat cushions. .original design). The woodgrain instrument panel is in excellent condition. The steering wheel was replaced earlier this year. The leather hood strap has been upgraded to include a lambswool protective underside. Included are the full convertible top, separate rear cover for storage area, and full tonneau cover with zip-back to accommodate just the driver if desired. Please note there is slight bubbling of the pain at the base of each door and is factored in the listed price. There is also some chrome chipping on the bumpers but does not detract at all from the beauty of this vehicle.
The most sought-after of vintage Morgans, Plus 4s are hard to find. This car is an excellent opportunity to acquire a very nice example.
I also have videos which I can share, of car driving as well as a copy of the original ledger from when it was dispatched to Canada from England on its journey to North America.
