Vehicle description

The finish on the body and hardtop was refreshed, and a new red leather interior, black soft top, and a set of refinished factory wheels were added. Service records and invoices totaling over $32k for the work done from 2014-2016 are included . The car was repainted less than ten years ago by the longterm owner, and is a shade darker and softer than the original White (050 G). The fender notches were painted over, though the original spot welds are still visible. After purchase in 2014, I carefully wet sanded, buffed, and polished the paint to renew the finish. The chrome and stainless steel trim were also polished at the time and remain bright. The Bracq and Barenyi designed body is straight and the fitment on the aluminum and sheet metal panels looks proper. The seller reports that a paint meter shows no filler on the car, and the doors shut nicely with a solid feel. A new correct windshield was installed with fresh seals in 2014, and the original cracked headlamp doors were replaced with new units. After purchase, I sourced five correct 14″ steel wheels and had them degreased, cleaned, and stripped before powder coating them black. In addition, 280SL hubcaps were purchased and refurbished, and then painted to match the exterior. The wheels and hubcaps are in nice shape and wear newer 195/60/R14 tires. The wheels were recently balanced and an alignment was completed. The original Pagoda hardtop is stamped with the suffix of the body number (2282) and was refinished. The interior of the top and the headliner were cleaned and detailed, and the headliner is said to have no tears, fading, or sagging. The top’s interior wood trim was thoroughly cleaned and treated as well. The odometer shows 48,362 kilometers (~30k miles) and has likely rolled over once. The 2.8 liter M130 SOHC inline-six was rebuilt by the previous owner and is said to run strong. The engine was refreshed with a new drive belt, shifter lever, major shift linkage kit, tie rod assemblies, spark plugs, and battery. The gas was drained and all of the fluids and filters were changed. Oil pressure is said to be good and a compression test completed on 8/10/19 shows 170 to 180 psi on all six cylinders. A new clutch master cylinder has been installed as well as a new clutch slave cylinder. The transmission is said to shift smoothly and engage nicely. The brakes supply ample stopping power with new pads being recently installed. The undercarriage is solid and was degreased and cleaned along with the wheel wells. The older exhaust was removed and the entire underbody was evenly coated with 3M Body Schutz. A new complete stainless steel exhaust system with correct chrome tips was then installed. The highest bidder will take it!
