Vehicle description
Solid foundation for a project. Somewhat of a rescue. No hood. This is a 1968 Cougar base model with a 302. It was a "barn" find, there was a previous restoration started a long time ago and never finished. The previous owner tells me it sat enclosed for about 20 years, it was on a dry cement floor. The 302 was supposedly rebuilt with a cam and bored .30 over with all the normal alignment and head planing etc. 9 to 1 compression. I cannot verify this, but I put a distributor, wires, carb and starter on it and it fired right up. It has headers and an edelbrock intake and valve covers on it when I bought it so I"d say its probably true.
The torque boxes and floor pans have been replaced with what I"d say was a very skilled amateur job. parts of the car were sandblasted but never painted they are still in good shape. The biggest problem area is the rear passenger quarter, it was hit somewhere along the line and then rusted. I would think it needs a new quarter. The driver side is still in very nice shape. Around the gas tank will need a little help, but it is at least flat around there. All the glass is there, windows roll up and down, what you see of the interior is what is there, there is what appears to be new carpet in the box. Both doors have a little rust in the front bottom as they all do. The vinyl top is all good and I can find no evidence of rust bubbling up from underneath. I put a ford 9 inch rear end in it. It is open and I think 3.00 to 1 ratio.
Car is mostly complete, I have attempted to be as complete in the good and bad as possible Neither the battery nor the carb is included, carb is too big anyway. New starter, solenoid, distributor, wires, plugs. Needed that stuff to see if it would start. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL ME WITH QUESTIONS - between 5:00 and 8:00 evenings - eastern time
