Corvettes – as well as their owners – are a breed apart. Corvette owners of all ages and backgrounds are united by a special bond. They often greet one another on the road with a quick wave, and seldom make reference to their cars, but always to their Corvettes. (Car & Driver May 1968) Corvettes have their own important place in the car culture, so when the completely restyled ‘68 was introduced, it was big news to say the least. Do you remember that? It was tremendous! 1968 was also the year that the legendary Zora Arkus-Duntov was named Chief Engineer of the Corvette. Changes for ‘68 were radical. No trained eye is needed. The Mako Shark inspired body design would remain a hallmark of Corvette styling for years to come. This was the first year for the T-top coupe. The rear window can be removed as well as the roof panels. This one is decked out in Tuxedo Black paint, together with the black interior, it’s a combination that not only stood the test of time, but is very fashionable today. The period-correct redline tires and Rallye wheels complete the total 1968 look. That distinctive power bulge hood announces the presence of the 427 Mark IV big block. 427’s are revered for providing big-block torque along with the ability to rev. This one is the original, numbers matching 400 horse version with the impressive three deuce setup. And it’s a four-speed.
So to recap, this is a ‘68 black-on-black numbers matching 427 tri-power, 4-speed Corvette! Also new for ‘68 was that fabulous dash with a huge tach and speedometer, and five positions in the center for fuel, oil pressure, water temp, ammeter, and an analog clock. A fiber optic system monitors the exterior lights, and there’s a door ajar warning light. We could go on, but Corvette people know all about it. Vehicle Description
