Vehicle description
1967 VW Type 2 (German) fully restored
This beautiful bus has been in our family since 2003. It was procured and restored from the ground up. We searched long and hard for a no rust/no accident/CA specimen for the project (with the help a well known VW restoration/mechanic Erwin Inocencio, of Monterey Park CA). The project was completed in 2004. Almost all of the mechanical and electrical was replaced or rebuilt. The motor was completely rebuilt and slightly bored to 1641cc. All the brake lines and components were replaced with disc brakes on all 4 wheels. Transmission was replaced with a “freeway flyer”. The suspension was rebuilt and dropped by 1” to give it a better look and improved performance. I will attempt to bulletpoint all of the work that was done during the restoration process. This bus is in excellent condition and has been extremely well taken care of. It has always been stored in my garage in Southern California. We built this Type 2 to be driven and used. I have driven roughly 32,000 miles since the motor was restored in 2004. If you do the math, that is about 2000 miles per year. Not only is the bus beautiful and magnetic to look at, it is extremely dependable. With its 4 disc brakes, it will stop on a dime. With the “Freeway Flyer” tranny, I can easily cruise at 65-70 mph on the freeway. The lowered suspension takes away that top heavy feeling, that is part of driving the Kombi. One of the few modifications is a modern stereo with Bluetooth and music streaming, that is fitted without any cutting in the bulkhead between the driver and passenger. This car is extremely reliable and fun to drive. In fact, earlier today I drove from my house in San Clemente to La Jolla to meet some friends to surf. Round trip is about 85 miles. I have owned a lot of different cars…this one by far gets the most attention. From the adults to the children; you can’t help but stare at this work of art.
You can check out additional photos and video clips on Instagram: instagram.com/1967vwsplittie There is absolutely no rust on this bus. During the restoration process, after the bus was taken down to the metal, a full sound insulation was installed to resolve the noise and “tinny” feeling of a microbus. Here is my best attempt to break down What was restored, replaced or modified. I have a picture book that followed the restoration with receipts. - Full engine rebuild (top/bottom) slightly bored to 1641cc - Carbs rebuilt, new gas tank and gas lines - Ground up restoration, bare metal, factory paint (L680 Cumulus White/L360 Sea Blue) Best color combo…IMO - Full sear and bench rebuild and recovered in new upholstery in grey Mercedes Tex style (perforated) with white piping - Full insulation (sound deadening called Dynamat) throughout - Transmission, transaxles replaced with “Freeway Flyer” - All brake components, brake lines, cylinders, etc replaced with disc on all four wheels - All glass was replaced with all new rubber on windows - All new hardware and trim - 1967 was the first year the Type 2 went to 12 volt - Porsche Fuchs style rims with relatively newer tires (15” wheels) in polished aluminum - Suspension was lowered/modified to give it a “SoCal look” by approximately 1” - Roof rack - After-market stereo smartly installed in the bulkhead with Bluetooth and streaming with 4 speakers, and amplified subwoofer. As I looked at some of the other Type 2’s for sale on EBay, and it appears most have been quickly cleaned up and painted to make a quick buck. A shiny new paint job can hide a lot of future headaches for a prospective buyer. You can feel comfortable this restoration was completed by one of the best in the business; no expenses were spared or corners cut. This was a project we planned to keep as an investment in our family for a long time. It will be sad to let this one go…she has been part of the family with lots of memories. I know for the serious buyers, this is a difficult decision. Feel free to contact me by text/phone and I can answer any questions you might have. I am happy to coordinate shipping/pick up. I can also txt you more pictures and some video clips that I made today while I was driving around- like freeway driving, a walk around and cold start. You can reach me at . The bus is located at my house in San Clemente, CA (92673) I have the clean CA title (pink slip) in hand.
