Vehicle description
1967 Morris Minor convertible (tourer) MAT coded VIN so it’s an original convertible, not a hard top that has been cut down.
When I bought the car it was advertised as running and driving, which it was- but that was about it. I don’t believe the previous owner meant to deceive me, I think he just wasn’t mechanical. I had found receipts in the paperwork for work that was paid for, but not done.
Manifold had been upgraded with twin SU carburetors (originally from MG with the same motor I was told) for more horsepower. Car had been upgraded with disc brakes in the front. I also installed a new larger master cylinder. I had an electronic ignition installed and the car starts every time without any issues. Car was fitted with an alternator so it has no battery charging issues. Also installed new water pump after I bought it.
We found that the engine had a massive vacuum leak, part of an emissions system that is used on some of these was removed. This was plugged by epoxying a quarter in place (Canadian one with the Queen of course). Meant to get around to fixing it with correct part, but have never needed to. Once the vacuum leak was sealed, the motor has always run excellent.
The paint is good but not show quality. This was repainted at some point prior to my owning. On the trunk in the left part of license plate space, paint started to chip away and the previous owner glued some chips back in place. I covered this with a flag sticker (on magnet) and it was not noticeable. It has a few small scratches (on very bottom of driver’s side rear fender) and chips as seen in the photos consistent with use.
Chrome is good all around, but the rear bumper does have one area where it’s not great (see photo)
The convertible top (white in color) is original. I had to drive it one time right when I bought it with the top up in light rain, and it didn’t leak. Since then the car has never been out in bad weather; I’ve always had the top down. The driver’s seat has a tear in it. (one of the few things advertised when I bought it) however the padding/springs in the seat do need to be replaced. Passengers seat is much better, padding/springs could be replaced or left as is. Rear seat seems fine.
I do have a set of Morris rubber floor mats for the front, just took them out for the photos. The Horn, all lights, wipers, and heater work. Does drip oil (like every other antique vehicle)
Have some extra parts including 2 spare wheels & tires as well as original manifold with single carburetor, original front brake drum parts, 2 brand new chrome side view mirrors, a box of miscellaneous bits, and quite a few books and service manuals. Has an electric fuel pump that had been added prior to purchase. I do have an identical one as a spare bought last year.
The car IS currently titled and registered in Massachusetts
The car has 2 issues: 1. The car developed a slight rotational noise in the front end which you can feel in the steering wheel while turning the wheel to the left in one spot. Sometimes it’s there, sometimes it isn’t. The more you drive it after few weeks of sitting in the garage, the less it does it. Might be a bushing. 2. Speedometer (and indicator lights in the speedo) work, but odometer has stopped in the past week just as it was about to turn over to 12,000 miles.
This has been a fun car that I have used frequently around my small town in the nice weather. Looks good and gets a lot of attention. It has a few small issues to fix, but when you do it, you’ll have a lot of fun driving the car around. The only reason I’m selling it is I just bought a 1951 Studebaker, which I have wanted to buy for about 20 years. I really don’t want to sell the Morris, but I can’t keep both cars. If I hadn’t bought the other car, I’d fix the few things on the Morris this summer and happily enjoy driving it around. I drove it a while when I took the pictures and I"m already am having seller’s remorse.
It’s a great looking driver, not a 100 point show car and not a junk. Again, you’ll enjoy owning and driving it as I have for the past handful of years
