Title: Clear "Michigan" Title
Color: Pale Primrose Yellow/Black interior
The "MG" is being sold in "as is" condition with no warranties expressed or implied.
History : This MG has led a charmed life. It was purchased new on 10/3/1967 from JL Hornsby, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio for $3068.50. Always garage stored and was always well cared for. The MG was professionally serviced and no expense was spared to keep this MG in top mechanical condition for it"s entire life. One of the best driving MG"s I have had the pleasure to drive. The car comes with a notebook that includes all of the receipts for the work performed on the car for most of it"s life. It documents how the miles rolled on starting from the beginning. This also includes a beautifully preserved owner"s manual.
The owner used it as his daily driver for the first 10 years and then it was relegated to weekend use. Always used on the nicest of days, the MG was well traveled. Attending car events and going on some very impressive long distance trips that included a trip to Canada as well as many trips around the country. The MG was thoroughly enjoyed by the owner.
As you can see in the pictures the MG presents itself very nicely. The "Pale Primrose Yellow" really shows the beautiful lines of the MG design. Many consider this color one of the best and quite rare and desirable. A wonderful alternative to "Red" or "BRG". It is a survivor example that was driven and enjoyed for it"s entire life. The MG did undergo a repaint and rocker panel repair approximately 30 years ago. Although the rocker panels look fine, there is inner rust and at some point they should be repaired properly. The floors are solid with the exception of where it meets the passenger side dog leg. The body is very straight and does not have any dents. The body does have the typical patina that one would expect from an older repaint which includes some touched up spots and normal wear from 54 years of use. The passenger side door does have a small crack in the typical spot. Both front and rear bumpers are in great condition - the chrome is very nice with no pitting. The grill is equally as nice. There is no history or evidence of accident damage. Truly looks stunning with the top up or down.
Mechanically the MG is in "turn-key" condition As noted, I would not hesitate to drive the MG anywhere. Over $11,000 was spent in the last 17 years which includes a complete engine rebuild. There are only 5,000 miles on all of the extensive work that has been performed.
The engine rebuild has only 5,000 miles on it. The receipt shows that the work was extensive. The following is a highlight of the engine work. New pistons, camshaft, cam bearings, rod bearings, main bearings, oil pump and timing chain and everything that is associated with that work. Has new clutch. A new water pump was installed, new motor mounts. Exhaust system was replaced and still looks brand new. Also had new leaf springs installed at the same time.
The tires and tubes were replaced 3 years ago with 5 Kumo tires. They look brand new. The original wire wheels are in excellent condition with no dents or damage. Includes the original wire wheel spare tire and also the original jack and bag.
As noted, the MG is a wonderful driver. The brakes feel great and the pedal is firm. Emergency brake works fine. The transmission shifts nicely with no issues. Absolutely no issues with the charging system or battery. Always starts at the pull of the choke. The suspension feels great and there are no clunks or strange noises. It"s truly a pleasure to drive.
The engine compartment is tidy and correct. The engine was painted during the rebuild.
The interior is in original condition and has the just the right amount of patina. The dash is in perfect condition and is truly a work of art. It still retains the original delicate "Banjo" steering wheel. The wheel is in nice shape and does not have the typical stress cracks at the banjo spokes, so it"s still strong and not compromised. It does have a "gap" in the wheel. All switches and knobs work as they should. All of the gauges are working with the exception of the temperature gauge due to the needle being stuck. Heater and fan operate as they should. Wipers work as they should. The very rare original dealer installed radio lights up, but does not work. Door panels are in very nice original condition. Carpet is in good shape with no rips or tears. Original leather seats show 54 years of fantastic seat time in this iconic MG. Still retains the original shift knob.
The MG has a new cloth convertible top as well as a brand new folding convertible top frame. This was $1300.00.
* License plate not included.
I do not have a "buy it now" price, but would consider ending the auction early for a serious offer.
