Vehicle description

1967 Fiat Cabriolet Mileage 76698 Owned since 2001 Please read the whole description below Backstory: I purchased this in 2001 thinking I would drive it for a year or two and sell it on. Great idea but when I got it home, the wife said: “you’re keeping this one, I love it!” For some reason she thought it was cute, named it “FiFi” and that was that. Since she passed about a year ago I figure I can now let it go. Over the years it has given great service really and never stranded me or the wife, but by the same token, we never took it on epic adventures either. We put about 5,000 miles on it in 19 years of ownership just going to local car events and holiday outings. It’s a bit of a rare bird as FIAT was preparing to bring out the twin cam 124 so this was an end of production model. It’s a 1500 pushrod motor allegedly turning out about 80 odd horsepower with a 2 barrel Weber carb. Disc brakes in the front and a 5 speed transmission round out a fairly modern set of mechanicals. I"ve listed the car as a 1967 as that"s what the title says but it usually gets referred to as a 1966 in the literature.
I will include the Pininfarina steel hard top which is a beautiful thing (even has its own serial number) but very heavy and it’s a two person job to move it around. Fully lined and fits the lines of the car really well. I used it once or twice but storage etc was a problem so I just left the folding top down and used the car only on sunny days anyway. The soft top is in very good shape but has developed some wear and tear just from rubbing on the top frame while folded. In the pics you can see a tear on the right side. It folds up and down with very little effort. Nineteen years ago I saw the car on EBay and made a low ball bid not expecting to win and sure enough I was the high bidder and had to make arrangements to get it all the way to the east coast from Los Angeles. Cost me about $1000 to ship but hey, a deal’s a deal… The car presents well but it’s an older restoration as they say. The repaint has held up very well but there are some bubbles showing up here and there. To be honest the pictures make it look really good. It’s an old clunky car, if you’ve owned Italian cars you may know what I mean. (not much of a salesman am I?) Car runs and drives well for its age, clutch and gearbox work fine, no syncho issues.
The bad news: reverse gear is really clunky and noisy . It backs up but makes some clunky noises and I never felt like fixing it as long as it still backed up. I have a spare transmission I will include in the deal. Also as you can see the bumpers were removed and the pans were filled. They did a good job but I wish it had the original bumpers. Brakes work fine and the tires are old but in decent shape. Exhaust is good with a supersport rear muffler. Floor pan is sound, no rot or rust perforation (!) which is why I bought it in the first place. Sills and door bottoms are good too, looks like it was undercoated a long time ago.
All instruments and lights work fine. Upholstery is ok, looks like interior was redone, not totally factory pattern but good enough. The drivers seat stitching is splitting in a few spots. Good dash pad, the period Motorola radio doesn’t work. Recently replaced / repaired: Rebuilt calipers, new wheel cylinders, shoes Recent electric fuel pump Sway bar bushings Right side upper control arm bushings Voltage regulator Water pump Universal joints This is not a concours trailer queen, it got driven but not in bad weather. Can you drive it cross country after purchase? I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are an adventurous type and have access to unlimited assistance as it is a FIAT after all. . The reserve is fair IMHO I just feel I’ve had it long enough and I am simplifying my life and thinning the herd. No I will not disclose the reserve. As always if you have questions, please ask No warranty express or implied, this is an old car and there are always items that need attention. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, I will do my best to help on my end. Car is located in Marshfield Massachusetts, about 35 miles south of Boston. Car has clear MA title in my name A deposit of $500 is requested within 3 days of auction end and the remainder by cash or bank check within 7 days.
