Vehicle description
It has been not only a privilege, but an honor to be involved with the "resurrection" and restoration of this car.which has a known history in the lower south, especially around georgia!. it is the infamous "Dixie Twister" drag car.specifically ordered by Johnny Brooks, son of chevrolet dealership owner of Brooks pontiac and chevy in georgia. the 67 camaro you see here was ordered just for drag racing only.they didnt start with any old base car, this is 1 of roughly 1009, super sport 396-375 h.p. cars produced!. . but it gets better.how many had the M22,4:88 12 bolt, with radio & heater delete(as noted on the trim tag-4k)and the almost never seen or heard of,cowl plenum air cleaner? it was also ordered with the first year disc brake option.and for the icing on the cake, the car only has "22" street driven miles on it!. . not 22,000,or 2,200. . thats all it was driven after it arrived of the transporter.that was to mount the wheels and tires, long traction bars, and the gold leaf lettering, ect. . then like every other race car, the speed ometer was disconnected.after years of racing the car went thru known racers, including Houston Platt, brother to well known drag racer, Hubbert Platt.
The original engine has long been lost or destroyed as in most cases of racing.it now has a "CE code L88 engine"still M22,but the 4:88s have been swapped for more street friendly driving, like 3:73 positraction, with the factory traction bar.the current owner had the correct vision to save and preserve this car to the best efforts as seen here & decided not to letter it.whoever becomes the new owner can easily have that replicated.there are good original pictures to support how to do that.two of the originals have been provided.one of the car outside of the dealership just after being prepped to race, and the other with a young Johnny Brooks. . .the original rear bumper was so near perfect,it was re-used since it still carries the dealership decal with"brooks chevy, pontiac "
Completion of this car included many NOS parts.and the best available restoration parts.all was done to the tune of no-expense spared.look at the underneath and under hood pictures of detail and youll see what im referring to.on the trim tag is the important information. . the correct color is "Capri-Cream."with gold standard interior. . and yes,4K for 375h.p. and 2HL,plus 3SK is also present for the radio & heater delete codes. Over the years of racing and different owners, some things get lost or broken,so i want to thank Bob Harris of Camaro Specialties in N.Y. for his knowledge and a couple of questions answered. The restoration was completed by Fantastic "5" auto Restoration Services in N.C. restoring chevelle, camaro, nova, impala & corvette since 1981.for more info and pictures, look for this title @ wwwchevyrestoration.com. . .please if you have any questions you can contact me (Rick)@ 704 425-5261.ill try to provide the answers to whats needed.like i said ,i know this car inside and out,top to bottom.this car will not disappoint.
