Vehicle description
Dad recently passed and we decided its best we sell his pride and joy to someone else to apricate and care for.
The car is in unbelievable condition for its vintage and has only 27592 actual miles on it. That"s not a misprint, 27592 actual miles.
Dad had been in bad health for the last few years and it has been pretty much setting since then. He used to like to clean it up and take it to some of the local car shows.
I don"t know a whole lot about the car but I will tell you what I know. I know a 1966 AMC with the DPL option was the top of the line at the time. It came with the vinyl roof, wire wheel covers, upgraded Houndstooth pattern vinyl/cloth interior. Most Ambassador"s were 4 dr cars so its much harder to find a 2 dr version. The car has factory AC, Power Steering and Power brakes.
I had the title transferred to me and it is free and clear. I took pictures of the car on the lift so you can see the clean original condition of it. I drove the car 20 miles home today, it"s 287CI V8 purred like a new one, and the automatic transmission shifted perfectly. The car ran straight down the road at 65 mph and rode great.
Ok for the rest of it. The good, the interior is in great original condition. The drivers seat has a repair glued on the upper outside corner and is the only bad I really see in it.
The body is in great clean original condition. As far as I can tell its original paint but the rocker under the pass door had been repainted for some reason and it don"t match well. Probably one of dads famous rattle can jobs for some reason.
The biggest problem is the left rear corner by the tail light. Someone backed into it and broke the taillight. I still remember him mad about that. The taillight was replaced but the fender has a slight wrinkle at the corner and a small spot of paint missing. I tried to photo that best as I could.
The bad of the car that I am aware of is minor stuff but I will list all I know. The dual exhaust is newer but it seems to have a exhaust leak on the driver side by the engine. Probably a doughnut gasket but I didn"t inspect it. The brake lights don"t work but I found dad had a new brake light switch in the box in the car. I know at one point the A/C worked in the car, but I didn"t try it so I don"t know if it still does or not. Assume it don"t. Driving it home I found the left front brake was wanting to lock up if you stepped on it very hard.
The good things are the clean solid body of the car, the vinyl roof is nice with no bubbles underneath indicating rust. Solid engine, trans, driveline, all the gauges etc seem to work as they should.
Like I said, this is about all I know about the car, but I will try to answer and questions you may have. I have other photos and I can take more if there is something in particular you need to see.
The car will start at reasonable bid and so is the reserve. In fact the reserve is what I have been already offered for the car, but you bidders will determine the ultimate value of the car.
After the auction ends I will require a $500 deposit through paypal with the rest being paid in cash on pickup. Any certified, bank or whatever checks you want to use will be fine but the title or the car will not be released till they clear through my bank. Wire transfers may be a option but that would have to be discussed.
If you require the car to be shipped/picked up, I will work with your transporter to pick the car up at my home in Wheatfield IN. If paid for right away I can store the car for up to 30 days no charge. Once the title is signed to you, you will be responsible to insure the car till its picked up.
