Vehicle description

Here is a very original and hard to find 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT with just over 86k original miles. Jamaican yellow paint with black bucket seat interior. "S" code 390 4V, C6 automatic, 3.25 Equalock rear end (before they called them traction lock) power steering, power brakes, bucket seats, console and factory tach. Appears to be original from paint to hubcaps. Engine bay is nicely detailed and still has factory chrome valve covers, oil cap, air cleaner, carb and exhaust manifolds. Not perfect as it is 53 years old and original but still a very nice looking driver with some minor patina. It is very hard to find a Cyclone GT, much less one that is this clean and original and anyone who has owned or ridden in an original car knows how nice they are compared to cars that have been apart or restored. No Marti reports are available for 1966, but the Data plate is original and reads: VIN - 6J26S5xxxxx Body 63H, Color 8, Trim 86, Date 06A, DSO 54, Axle D, Trans 4 The paint is factory original but still shines. It is still quite presentable and looks very nice to the casual observer but does of course have some flaws. The paint appears thin of the front edge of the hood and the tops of the headlight buckets (from polishing and waxing over the years). There are various chips that have been touched up etc. The body is nice with no rust or evidence of previous rust repairs anywhere, you will not find a more solid original example. Seams are very tight and I don’t see any bubbles anywhere. No cracks where the roof meets the quarter panel behind the quarter window like most every Fairlane or Cyclone out there. Doors open and close very nicely. Door jambs are very nice. Body is overall very straight with a few slight waves in the roof and some minor dings in the trunk lid that probably only I notice. Also has one minor ding in the right rear quarter but it looks like an easy repair for a paintless dent shop. The frame, floors, undercarriage and trunk floor are original and in great condition. Even the insulation on the underside of the factory fiberglass hood is intact. Glass is all good, windshield has been replaced at some point. Bumpers are original, they are both straight, front is pretty nice with some thin spots from water drips and rear is straight and decent. The rest of the trim is in very nice shape. Brand new BF Goodrich T/A tires mounted on 15x7" Magnum 500 wheels The 4 original Cyclone hubcaps are in excellent condition and included as well! The interior is in very nice condition and appears original. The seats, dash pad, console, headliner and carpet are all in very nice condition. The chromed plastic on the instrument cluster does have some typical fading. Factory steering wheel is very nice. Still has working original factory AM radio. The console is in excellent condition and it has the factory tachometer mounted on the dash and it works properly. Gauges, lights, signals, heater, wipers, interior lights and horn all work. The glove box light and reverse lights still work! Even the original weather stripping looks very nice. The "S" code 390 GT engine runs strong with no smoke, knocks or ticks. Nicely detailed, It is stock except for an aluminum intake manifold, Pertronix ignition kit and a slightly larger Comp 270H Cam (cam card included). It still has the original Holley 4150 carb with tag(which has been completely rebuilt), exhaust manifolds, chrome valve covers, chrome oil cap, chrome air filter and dipstick. Transmission shifts well and the car drives very straight and smooth. The 9" Equalock rear end is smooth and quiet. Brand new dual exhaust system from manifolds to stainless tips with Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. It has power drum brakes which are all new, new shocks and the original power booster has been rebuilt. I would probably eventually upgraded to factory style disc brakes, but that is of course up to the buyer. I also have the original "S" code cast iron intake manifold, which is included in the sale! Real Cyclone GT’s are hard to find and to find one this original and untouched is extremely rare. Overall this is about as clean and original as you will find. It would make an excellent driver and it"s ready to cruise as is. The casual observer will think it is in excellent condition and the enthusiast will appreciate its originality. Being over 50 years old, it is of course not perfect and has minor flaws to the trained eye but it can be driven and enjoyed as is. It could use restoring of a few small items to improve the look a bit if you so desired but I wouldn’t do anything beyond that to the appearance myself. International buyers are welcome. Car is sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. The car will be sold in "AS IS" condition. It is available for inspection by appointment only. I have done my best to describe it accurately but please understand that this is a 50+ year old car that has not been restored. I try very hard to describe them accurately and to make sure potential buyers have any information I would want as a buyer. Feel free to email with any questions you may have.
