Vehicle description
Up for sale is a rare 1966 Ford Custom 500 . The car is fairly complete except for engine and transmission. This is a manual transmission (on the column), six-cylinder car. Car still has the clutch pedal. Wiring is largely intact. Even has the FOMOCO cloth windshield wiper fluid hanging bag. It has the original steel wheels (15”) and three of its original hubcaps (although one is different from the other three—different year). It has minimal bodywork and very straight (has a dent on the bottom of the car near the front driver wheel well). Very straight and original blue upholstery in good shape. It has a title and the original FOMOCO keys (one for the doors and ignition and one for the trunk). Dashboard is unmolested and it has original steering wheel. Radio is still in it. The top instrument cluster foam pad for the dash is in the trunk of the car. Floorboards are in good shape. Bumpers are in good shape. Grill and lights all complete. Just needs a drivetrain. Includes drive shaft. Data plate shows this car was originally a white car with blue interior, which is what this is today. I do believe this is the original paint on this car, except for some places on the body. It was made in New Jersey, but this car has been in the dry Southwest all of its life, in El Paso, TX. There are two faded bumper stickers from local radio stations in the 70’s that indicate with reasonable certainty this car has been in the Southwest for at least 40 years. I am the third owner. The guy I bought it from acquired it from the original owner. The car has every piece of trim, even the cool hood ornament. This is not a Galaxie nor a Fairlane nor a Falcon, but one of those rare two-door big Ford cars, commonly used for police cars and fleet vehicles. This was also one of the cars that were sold during Ford’s White Sales, where Ford offered up-trimmed vehicles at affordable prices. Most of those cars are very rare today as many were crushed in the 80’s. What makes this car rarer is that it is a two-door version with the bright trim on the door. Many 500 Customs were four-door variants. Bought this for a father-son project, but he did not like it. His younger brother liked it even less, which is unfortunate. It has a 9” Ford rear-end and, according to the door’s data plate, it’s a 3.00:1 ratio car, likely open-ended (non-posi/non-locker). It still has the stamped aluminum data plate on the rear-end and I can get under there in case it’s necessary and if you’re interested (nothing like a rear end that still has its original tag). It has 4-link trailing arms on the rear end. Doors shut and close very well. Solid. Windshield is cracked, but all other windows are in great shape. No rust around windows. Water did not make it inside this car"s cabin (I believe the original owner stored this car under cover). Seats are covered for protection and are in GREAT shape (just needs a thorough cleaning). Horn button/horn ring is included, but it is not currently assembled. In the glovebox, the car has a switch for emergency flashers. Don’t know if this was an aftermarket add or OEM, but I find it very interesting and it appears original. Car was originally an A/C car, but the compressor and evaporator/condenser missing. No radiator. Surface rust on the trunk, no through-holes that I can see. A good complete example of a big Ford car, two door variant. Would make a great sleeper car with some monster meats in the back (rear end is strong enough already) and a modern fuel-injected Ford power plant. The rear wheels wells have all kinds of room for a bigger tire. This is a nice builder car. Data plate on the door reads 62B M 62 16M 15 11. VIN = 6E51V174699 Buyer is responsible to pick this car up in El Paso, TX. If you’re personally picking it up, and as a buyer courtesy, I can offer FREE delivery up to 75 miles in your highway direction to save you about two hours of back-and-forth driving; beyond 75 miles is $1.33 per mile (300 total miles MAX). We can trailer-to-trailer roll it at a rest stop or a truck stop. That means if you live 300 miles from me, delivery will cost you only $299 .
