Vehicle description
Chevrolet Bel Air Original owner of a 1966 Chevrolet Bel Air 4 Dr. Sedan with 390HP/427. Factory ordered options are: A/C, P/W,Turbo 400 Automatic Transmission, Posi 12 Bolt Rear, and Transistor Ignition. P/S was added later in the 70"s from a first generation Big Block Camaro. Drive train all original to car, all Matching Numbers.
Car was ordered in early 1966, (My father was going to order it with a 396 in September of 1965, but the salesman told him if he waited, he could get it with a 427.) Dealer was Ed Rinke Chevrolet in Centerline Michigan. Car spent very little time in Michigan, My family went to live in Arkansas while my Dad went to serve in Vietnam. He returned in 1969, when we moved to Moreno Valley, Ca. The car has been here ever since.
The Car has no cancer, just surface rust. (Several years of real patina, if you are into that thing.) The only body damage to ever happen to it was the two passenger doors. (my dad hit one of those concrete posts in a gas station. It was fixed a long time ago, seen in photos.) The Car is about 90% original, with the usual maintenance items replaced over the years. The car has 15 inch wheels on it, but I have the original 14 inch wheels that go along with it. The engine is all Standard except the front crank throw is 2 thousands under, a defect from the factory. Bore is also standard. My dad and I took the pistons out and had the domes milled off to run regular gas from the 70"s on. I have several other parts you are welcome to, Carbs, Distributor, Brake Drums, ETC. (Whatever I can find.)
You can see from the photos that I have the original warranty booklet with the Protecto-Plate to prove it is the real deal. The Car is very rare, with a 427, and very few were made in full size cars or Corvettes in 1966. The Car is being sold AS IS, no warranty. Local Pickup only, unless all shipping and charges are paid by, and arranged by, the Buyer.
On Feb-02-21 at 21:54:27 PST, seller added the following information:
I found out that the L36 390/427 was only installed in 3,247 full-size cars. unfortunately, there is no documentation on how many of each of the 4 models, got one. if you divide by the 4 models, (Bel Air, Biscayne, Impala, and Caprice, that is an average of 811 L36"s per model full-size. A very low number.
Some may consider this interesting, (some may not) My dad considered ordering it with an L72 425/427. He changed his mind because he didn"t want to adjust Solid Lifters periodically. (it was a family car after all. I wish he had, even more rare. Minus 2 doors, even better.)
