Vehicle description

1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado Convertible Serial # E6209687 HISTORY: In 1966, the Cadillac Division of General Motors set new sales records for the fifth straight year. For the first time in their almost sixty-five-year history, total production topped 200,000 cars. Twelve different models were offered, including the luxurious new Fleetwood Brougham. After a complete re-engineering and cosmetic makeover, the previous year, styling changes for the1966 Cadillacs were minor. The grille was revised to incorporate a horizontal center bar with parking lights at either end. Overall, there was less exterior chrome, with painted headlight bezels and redesigned front cornering lights. The large vertical bumper/rear fender ends now included more integrated tail and backup lights. Additionally, all Cadillacs received new wheel covers that featured six spokes radiating out from a larger flat center. The top of the line two-door Eldorado convertible debuted in 1953, and remained Cadillac’s most prestigious open personal luxury car until it was discontinued in 1976. By 1966, the model was in its fifth generation and had technically become part of the Fleetwood series. This would be the last rear-wheel drive version of the Eldorado as well as the last drop-top until 1971. The subject car (#E6209687) is a 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Series Eldorado Convertible (Style #68467); one of 2,250 built that year. It is powered by Cadillac’s standard OHV 429-cid V8 rated at 340 horsepower with an automatic transmission. This car was built during the second week of March in 1967 and had a base price of $6,631. According to its cowl tag, it retains its original color, Cobalt Firemist, although it originally had a blue top. Optional equipment on this example includes; air conditioning, an AM/FM radio and an adjustable steering wheel. CONDITION: Good older repaint in its original Cobalt Firemist color showing some age and surface scratching throughout (can be easily buffed out). Very good white replacement top with only light wrinkling. Good exterior trim that exhibits scratches and some light pitting. This is especially noticeable on the door handles and the base of the left side mirror. The white leather seats are in very good condition and appear to have been replaced. The interior trim is good to very good with surface scratching and minor surface corrosion. driver’s door. The center of the steering wheel is cracked. The rubber gaskets around the doors, windows, trunk and hood have deteriorated and would need to be replaced if the car was going to be shown competitively. The engine bay is tidy and everything appears to be in good working order. The trunk is in similar order and contains a correct-style bumper jack. Very good painted steel wheels with full wheel covers fitted with Goodyear P235/75 R15 tires.
