Vehicle description
1964 Volkswagen Beetle
A great candidate for an easy, compete restoration. These "64 Beetles are rocketing up in value and they won"t be getting any cheaper!
This car is a great choice for the beginner tinkerer who wants to get their feet wet in doing a full restoration, customization, or as a car to just drive as is! An easy car to flip for a profit, the body is in good shape overall and wouldn"t take much to make great. The interior is in excellent shape. The car needs some odds & ends, nothing major, and the Herbie decals are starting to peel but all the important stuff works. It is running on the original 6V electric system with upgraded electronic ignition.
The motor was rebuilt but there"s some throttle hesitation when cold/warm that I suspect is coming from the auto-choke that I never sorted out. After cruising at 55 mph, the throttle has perfect response until it cools down to idle temp, then the hesitation returns. The car is otherwise mechanically sound.
The car was restored by the previous owner and the two most important parts of the body - the floor pans and heater channels - were done correctly. Odometer reading is original and is not accurate to the rebuilt motor or rebuilt chassis miles.
Highlights: Motor was rebuilt following the John Muir "Beetle Bible" specs. Brake master cylinder was rebuilt. New starter. Heater channels were restored correctly. Floor pans were restored correctly. Interior is in excellent condition. Body has indications that filler was used during restoration, but no signs of holes or major rust - solid. Distributor upgraded to PerTronix SVDA with electronic ignition module. The antenna missing in the pictures has been replaced. All windows open/close as they should. The wipers have fairly new blades and they work properly. A ton of paperwork from previous owners that document much of the car"s history.
The car, clear/clean title, and bill of sale are all located in Florence, SC in the safe care of family friends. I live in Montana now but the papers have already been pre-filled out by myself (where needed); the rest can be filled out after purchase by them and you. I am more than happy to answer questions! If you are interested in seeing the car in person before buying, please message me and I will provide the address at which the car resides.
Cash, cashier"s check, or PayPal only. Car does not leave the property until the PayPal payment has cleared! If paying by cashier"s check, I"ll request the name and location of the bank as well as the check number so I can verify that it is legitimate.
Note - this is not a movie car! It only has decals added as a tribute to "Herbie".
Buyer is responsible for pickup/transport. The car is not sold with any kind of warranty or guarantee expressed or implied. The best thing you can do for peace of mind is to either see the car in person or have a mechanic take a look at it. And again, don"t hesitate to message me with questions about it!
All communication regarding the Beetle up to the completed transaction must remain on eBay. I will not text or call. This is so we both have written records of all communication and the transaction process. It is for your protection and mine, there are a lot of scammers out there.
