Vehicle description

1964 Volkswagen Beetle.
A great candidate for an easy, compete restoration!
Currently a 20-footer, it"s not perfect but the body is in good shape overall and wouldn"t take much to make great. The interior is in excellent shape. The car needs some odds & ends and the decals are starting to peel but all the important stuff works. It is still running on a 6V electric system with upgraded electronic ignition.
The motor was rebuilt but there"s some throttle hesitation when cold/warm that I could never figure out. After cruising at 55 mph, the throttle has perfect response until it cools down to idle temp, then the hesitation returns. The car is otherwise drivable and roadworthy.
The car was restored by the previous owner and the two most important parts of the body - the floor pans and heater channels - were done correctly. Odometer reading is not accurate to the rebuilt motor or rebuilt chassis miles.
Appeals: Motor was rebuilt following the John Muir "Beetle Bible" specs. Brake master cylinder was rebuilt. "New" remanned starter. Heater channels were restored correctly. Floor pans were restored correctly. Interior is in excellent condition. Body has indications that filler was used during restoration, but no signs of holes or major rust - overall solid. Distributor upgraded to PerTronix SVDA with electronic ignition module. The antenna missing in the pictures has been replaced. All windows open/close as they should. Interior door handle locking mechanisms work properly. The wipers have fairly new blades and they work properly. A ton of paperwork from previous owners that document much of the car"s history.
Flaws : Speedometer reads 20% lower than actual speed. Dash light and dome light don"t illuminate. Dome light worked when I originally got it. Sapphire I radio appears to be original but does not work. Seats won"t slide on the rails. Glove compartment opens/closes/latches, but seems to be missing spring assist to open. Horn assembly on steering wheel is good looking but incomplete underneath and is not wired up. A functioning horn button was installed under the dash by a previous owner. Heater vents are missing the sliding covers, though the knob to open/close the internal vent flaps functions. There is a small tear in the rear passenger seat, as shown in the video linked below* . There is a dent on the rear passenger fender, also shown in the video linked below* . There is a crack under the driver"s side front bumper mount arm, also shown in the video linked below* . The paint on the roof started to crack, so it was sanded down, filler used to smooth out pitting ( no holes ), rust-preventative primer used, and then several layers of paint used to refinish. Refer to the posted pictures to see the finished work. The Herbie decals are peeling and the roof decal was cut for the aforementioned reason. The tires are a few years old now and may need to be replaced for safe operation, as tires do have lifespans.
The car, clear/clean title, and bill of sale are in Florence, SC with family friends. The papers have already been pre-filled out by myself (where needed); the rest can be filled out by them and you. I currently live in Montana but am more than happy to answer questions. If you are interested in seeing the car in person before buying, please message me and I will provide the address at which the car resides. I will also answer any questions regarding the car that you may have.
Cash, cashier"s check, or PayPal only. Car does not leave the property until the PayPal payment has cleared! If paying by cashier"s check, I"ll request the name and location of the bank as well as the check number so I can verify that it is legitimate.
Note - this is not a movie car! It only has decals added as a tribute to "Herbie".
Buyer is responsible for pickup/transport. The car is not sold with any kind of warranty or guarantee expressed or implied. All I can guarantee is that I"ve tried to describe everything I know about the car as accurately and in as much detail as I am possibly able to. The best thing you can do for peace of mind is to either see the car in person or have a mechanic take a look at it. And again, don"t hesitate to message me with questions about it.
